On my DVR, you can't actually record when there's no power. But if you have it on the channel you want to watch (before the power goes out), you can rewind it when the power comes back on. On mine, you can rewind about 6 hours, I think, so this may not help depending on how long the power's out.
uh, what kind of magical DVR do you have?

I am not worried about the flooding, or winds, or tornados, but worried that my damn electricity is going to get knocked out and I won't be able to watch the game.

Not to sound like an old mofo (but I am) but back in the day we would have made sure to have at least a radio with batteries so you could listen on da big 870. For TV backup, get a marine battery and an inverter like you're tailgating.

Where are all the "Direct TV is so much cheaper and better" folk now?

Things like this are exactly why I would never switch to the dish.

then you are a idiot. I had DTV during Katrina, ran it off a generator all night in the upper 9 while the "cox'ers" had zilch nada nothing

I won't lose signal during this, power is different that DTV btw so you really are clueless

and if I cant I'll try to find a motel with cable.

Nightmare scenario: Your power goes out, you find a motel with power, dish out $70 for the room, settle in for opening kickoff - then Damn, power goes out in the motel. That's the kind of shite that happens to me

Motel? Cheaper and likely better picture at a sportsbar. Who goes to a motel?

Guys - if the cable is out - it's out! Home, hotel or brothel - it's out. Good advise on previous post. The clerk at the desk is just gonna run your card.

I am assuming the guy who made the post I responded to was talking about a situation where the power goes out in his AREA, and he drives until he finds a motel with it's lights on. If he's 40-50 miles from home, he probably has no clue where the nearest sports bar is, or even if there IS one if he has stopped in a small town on an Interstate exit...

I'm heading to Jackson, MS this weekend (leave Sat morn/leave sun after lunch). Should we cancel due to bad weather? I wasn't sure how bad it was going to get (down I-55 N & S)?

If you are worried about power going out, go out tomorrow and get a $9 antenna from radio shack and a $35 inverter from Home Depot (see below). You can run a TV on the inverter for hours and hours just starting the car battery every so often. If you have a deep cycle marine battery, it is even easier. Rig up the carport, put a tv out there and watch the game over the air in HD.
