How is Brandon Taylor not on this list if Barron made it. The Bama bias in full effect.

Checked out the Thorpe Award site and saw this
LINK /

The Jim Thorpe Award for the best defensive back in college football was created in 1986. It was conceived by former Oklahoma City talk show host Ed Sossen and W. Lynne Draper, the Jim Thorpe Association Executive Director, as a way to do something positive to promote Oklahoma. The award was immediately accepted as one of the nation’s top collegiate sports honors. Winners are judged on their performance on the field, athletic ability and character.
A pre-season “watch list” is determined by an analysis of All-American teams listed in various pre-season college football publications. A “Screening Committee” of Jim Thorpe Association members follows and researches the performance of these and other players and then meets on the first Monday in November to narrow the field to 10 or 12 semi-finalists. This committee will meet again on the Monday before Thanksgiving to select the three finalists. The names of these finalists are submitted to a national panel of over 50 sports writers, sportscasters, former players and coaches who vote to determine the winner.

I've always contended that Claiborne is a better defensive player than TM7. Now, my opinion has been validated.
Mo might have better talent and better pro career but right now in the college game there is not one defensive player more valuable than Mathieu.

wow...makes no sense for him not to be on the list, unless there is some criteria about being suspended.
I work with one of the highest committee members of the Thorpe Award....Mathieu was their number 1 before the suspension....the suspension knocked him out of contention because of the allegations. The committee was excited to because they were going to hype up the #7 from LSU thing with PP winning it last year.
On a side note I got real good seats to the banquet last year and got PP to sign the helmet I keep in my office

guess that explains it.

I'm surprised Menzie is not on that list.
he's had about 5 passes thrown his way this year. and one went for a pick 6 against Arky

Congrats to Claiborne!! The only thing surprising about TM7 not being on the list is that people are surprised.

2 players from Oklahoma St. over Mathieu. OSU has the 111th ranked D in the nation
more of the sports media not wanting the viewers in the non SEC football areas of the country to quite watching. Gotta give the allusion of hope for ratings sake and make those other fans feel like this season is still relevent towards post season play.

check the Synthetic Thorpe list........

To be honest, I don't think he cares
Seriously? If I had a season like what TM7 is having and fricked it away because of dumb decisions off the field I would have cared. Guy had a great chance to receive some awards as sophomore, but fricked it away. The one positive of this ordeal is that he has another chance next year to bring home some trophies. Knowing that, I think that will motivate him too!

I agree. He's a great player, but there are some things that he needs to work on. You can't only look at the highlights. He's only 19. He's amazing for his age, but he's not a "lockdown" cornerback, yet. I said earlier that if I'm Bama i'll take a mismatch versus a linebacker or go inside on TM7 before throwing a longer pass to one of the WRs on the parameter.

Ridiculous, unless there is some rule about suspensions. He's the best defensive playmaker in the country. However, like many have said, this is just more motivation for him.
ETA: After reading more of the thread, it seems that his suspension is the reason. So, it's understandable.

I think he's amazing. Im just having flashbacks from him getting dragged for 16 yards during his last performance. I hope he gets a pick 6 against Bama.

That list implies that those guys are better at their position than Mathieu and that is laughable.

What suspension?
The kid f'ed up, but the media/internet burned him hard. Ryan Baker's "planned lack of playing" went unnoticed until he didn't play in the NWSU game.

really wasn't it an in-house suspension, not a NCAA suspension?
LSU should find out whoever linked the drug test info and suspension to the Reville and post his info on here or 4chan.. LSU could have kept this whole thing hidden.

I think Claiborne and Simon are better cover corners.
Mathieu is just awesome as the nickle.
Our problem for the Bama game is he is a smaller guy and will probably only be lined up at CB. I can't see us playing a smaller lineup with Mathieu with us dealing with Bama's run game. This sucks because Simon probably won't play as much.
Ex- I don't think Simon has as much of a problem with Rodgers as Mathieu did in the UT game.

I think that we will be surprised. Truthfully, I would rather have TM7 in the right place to make a play than a bigger player that ends up out of position.
