There was nothing wrong with HVL’s defense.

So I went and checked out some Clark highlights concentrating on Lith. She was hustling, and contesting the shots. There wasn’t much more she could have done.
I know people were complaining that she should have been taken off Clark, but it wouldn’t have mattered. Rewatch some highlights and see for yourself if you’d like.

She probably gave everything she was capable of, but someone more athletic could have done a better job

nobody has questioned her effort. you're creating straw man arguments.

I only needed to watch once. if it's not working, try something else. HERE'S A THOUGHT, DOUBLE TEAM. trap on all screens.

Kimberly changed her strategy. she changed it about an hour too late. even she disagrees with you.

Clark was scoring 40 on anyone we would have thrown at her.

Having a few more inches you don’t think would have mattered? They were setting monster picks. They had a few runs and Clark just kept bombing them. It’s funny how the abc ESPN vilified Our tigers it’s ok. Kim has thick skin and Tigers will be fine and back in the mix next year with USC and USC Iowa will be no where to be found.

That’s just a wrong statement.

Nothing wrong at all with HVL’s effort or technique. She gave 100%

It was how Mulkey didn’t try to switch things up earlier on in the game.

She was shooting them from well beyond NBA range. Nobody was stopping her.

Not a question of effort. Just a huge mismatch. If she hits step back 30 footers so be it. But she was getting in the lane way too easily. She had 12 assists! If she scores the same but had 6 assists maybe we win the game. I think Johnson had the best chance. Maybe she would have gotten into foul trouble and it wouldn’t have made a difference. Who knows

So LSU, seeing that she was shooting and making them from downtown you don’t think that someone athletic extending the defense out further was going to make a difference? Is that what you’re saying?
None of your points are valid.

She would have gotten her shots off last night against anyone, yes.

But they would have been more contested creating lower probability of making them.
Any one who’s played competitive basketball at any level could see a change was needed in defensive strategy.

I agree. The rest of Iowa’s team shot what, 45% from the field?

Defense was a problem on everyone

Look, I think her defense has improved drmatically, so has her PG skills... BUT.. She can't throw it in the ocean these days. Hitting 3's has to be part of her game. She drives into trouble too often, and should pull up mid range.. Like MW does..

Kim had our worst defender guarding the nation's leading scorer.

Additionally, there was zero effort to help on screens or switch off. HVL was left alone to run around guarding Clark all over the court getting hit with screens left and right.

Then we bitch when she doesn't have the legs to make jumpers in the 4th quarter or throws away passes.

HVL was a Steve Kerr type point guard. You wouldn't tell Steve Kerr to guard Michael Jordan. That's what Kim Mulkey did.

Well, she broke a hard rule early “see ball, see man” and got back cut to give up an easy layup. Her one on one with Clark was pretty good. I’m most upset about her throwing the ball into the stands a couple of times

Kim knew Flaujue was the best defender of Caitlyn but she needed Flajue’s offense. It wouldn’t have been that close if Flaujue fouled out early or was on the bench in foul trouble.

Exactly, double teams, trap, box in one, just do something to slow her down and make the rest of the team beat you. The 41 points was impressive, but even more is the 12 assists. We let her go off scoring AND distribute to get others involved. Constantly beating us off the dribble creating mathematic disadvantages toppled with LSU going cold shooting the ball equaled our demise.
