Theory of who is running the O

Why do people say Crowton isn't running the O, that Les was? If that was the case, then was he running the O when Jimbo was here too? I think Les has input, but he leaves it up to Fisher and Crowton. I know he has had a play card in his hand, but this isn't all the time. Also, Crowton didn't recruit, so if he wasn't coaching the qb, calling plays or recruiting, then why was LSU paying him $425K?

Not every game just the cotton bowl is the rumor...I think miles does most the recruiting though

I'm sure he did override Crowton a bit, after fielding one of the worst offenses in college football, wouldn't you?
But I think most people make too much out of Les overriding his OC. 1. Every coach in college football does this at some point and 2. Miles doesn't seem like a coach that has to run everything his way. Which can be a good thing if you have good coordinators.

I was told that Les had a big hand in play calling. Crowton called most of the Cotton Bowl and all of the 4th quarter.

From what I remember Jimbo left because Les wanted to be involved in the offense.

Yea, there were fans that wanted to say anytime the offense struggled under Jimbo or Crowton that it was because Miles got involved and interferred. Or even crazier the ones that claimed neither OC really ran the offense. Nevermind the fact that the offense was quite different from 05-06 to 07-10. (And was obviously different because Crowton and Jimbo had different systems.)
Miles isn't the type of personality to step on toes and to interfere early and often with an OC's responsibilities.

So we are all in agreement that the offense hasn't been terrible since 2008 because Les will running the O and calling all the plays?
I think that is ludacris
Crowton has a history of fading, so I still think he was calling the plays and running the o, not Les.

In Jimbo's last game as OC at LSU, the camera panned to the coach's box and he could audibly be heard on the telecast scream something to the effect of "run the f#@*ing play I called".
For all 6 years, the QBs have had a hard time getting the play in from the sidelines in enough time to call the play and get to the line of scrimmage. Has led to numerous delay-of-game penalties and numerous wasted timeouts (as late as with 1:32 left in 2nd qtr of Cotton Bowl). If people aren't arguing over what play to call, why is it so consistently hard to get the play called timely?
These two items and rampant rumors allegedly confirming Miles' tinkering/interference/etc. have fostered this belief.

I was told directly from an offensive lineman that Miles overrulled Crowton all the time. I don't know wheather Miles' or Crowton's plays worked better. If both were calling plays, then, based on their offense ranking, they both suck.

It has also been different every year.

Who knows what the hell was going on...

From Gary Crowton:

He (Edsal) wants me to install the same offense I ran at Boston College when we were there together (1991-93),at Louisiana Tech and at BYU. It's more of a wide-open style and that's very inviting to me.
(at LSU) The style we played wasn't wide-open.
He was the head coach and I worked for him. The direction he (Les) wanted to go on offense

You just answered your own question Weaver. Les for better or worse had enough control of the offense for Jimbo to leave. When Saban was here, Jimbo had full control, granted Saban is more of a Def. guy than Les, but it's true, so Jimbo left Les to get that power back. Same thing w/ GC. Les allows him to call the plays for the most part, but has enough input or impact on the offensive calls to push him out.

crowton runs the O, or should say was running the O--One of LSUs biggest issues, and this is not breaking news, is that there are too many chiefs and not enough indians on offense..Stud--former OC, GC the OC, Enmsinger who has called plays, and Gonzales who is passing game coordinator AND Les is an offensive guy who gies to game planning meetings etc...Les had more input than usual for cotton bowl..he wanted more of a pro-styl look and less spread...crowton does recruit, but only QBs except in rare cases..likes to get a live look in person...

Jimbo left to become a head coach, the very reason he was dubbed "HC in waiting" at FSU.

Every team will have problems getting a play in every now and then. I would say that this was only a real problem last year, and a lot of the times was when Shep came in and lined up in the backfield. Billy G corrected any problems we might have been having though.

Then the OC should be on the field, like Gus.

If you believe that you have just set a new standard for stupidity on this board.
Juat a quick question before you go back in after recess.
What is Jimbo doing now?

So we were good/great in 05-07 then sucked after that. Don't see how you are good and then just suck all of a sudden. Also, wide range of plays run from 05-07 then to 08-10.
