the win/loss history of interim coaches in CFB

so, this is every interim coach I can find for the 65 P5 conference schools in the past 30 years, excluding coaches who took over for a bowl game like Bill Stewart.
theres 18 coaches listed here, and only 4 had a winning record. Brian Cabral went 2-1, Dabo Swiney went 4-3, Clay Helton went 5-4, Ed Orgeron went 6-2, and Ed Orgeron went 3-0.
most of these are just bad teams of course, but 2015 USC was pre-season number 8. Helton finished out 5-4 and USC was not in the final rankings.
2009 Clemson was pre-season number 9. Dabo finished 4-3 and Clemson was number 24 in the final rankings.
2013 USC was pre-season number 24. Orgeron finished 6-2 and USC was number 19 in the final rankings.
its the only example I can find of a teams ranking actually improving under the interim.
if there's any I missed, just let me know

The rest of those are fired because it was overall shitty. Miles and his ideas were the only problems in this program. The supporting staff (most part) and players are stacked. So yeah

Orgeron is the best interim head coach in history
9-2 not even close
9-2 not even close

Also I'm assuming you're not counting 1 game bowl interims because it would make this list ridiculously long

Were you only looking at coaches that coached a minimum amount of games? You missed the LSU coach with the greatest winning percentage of all time. (Both career and at LSU, since he only was the head coach at LSU.)
Hal Hunter, 1999 LSU 1-0

Other teams: fire HC when program is in a tailspin.
LSU: a Ferrari with a potato stuck in the exhaust pipe. Potato gone, car drives fine.

How many of these interim coaches took over for a top 5 preseason team? Looks like shitty teams with shitty coaches fired their coaches and still ended up with a shitty season. Looks like 2 out of 3 teams that were ranked preseason ended up ranked at the end of season.
Not the greatest at math but it seems like:
shitty coach + shitty team - shitty coach = shitty season.
shitty coach + decent team - shitty coach = decent season.

Clemson under Dabo went from number 9 to number 24
USC under Orgeron went from number 24 to number 19
but yeah, lets pretend like those are the same thing

Or how about lets pretend a loss to SMU/Navy or UNC/Louisville/Clemson is worse than a 10-25 HC record.

Nb4 these tired refutations are posted:

I want a coach that has more than 1 ranked win in 46 games. I guess I'm setting the bar too high for myself... carry on.

It's no use. You are dealing with people, who for the most part, hired Bobby Jindal (twice),J B Edwards, K Blanco and so on.

I can speak for him but Jimbo won my heart with his tantrum/rant against the refs from the FSU-Clemson game.
I wish an LSU coach had the balls to say what Jimbo said postgame Saturday.
