Bowls used to be a reward for a good season. Fill hotel rooms in destinations around Holidays. Now, as Nick Saban said, the playoffs are the only thing that matters.
I have been saying the non-playoff bowls should become Spring FB games with next year's teams that DO NOT count against next year records. The Spring Game Bowls would be fresh and exciting but not critical to next season records. And they would raise $$$ for the programs. Spring Bowl games should schedule nearby out of conference opponents. ??

I thought this thread title was going to be mafia-oriented

Players may not be, but the coaching staff certainly is. Their calendar is so compressed, they have to change gears and move to next season.

The best way to fix a bowl game is to pay the best team’s running back to fumble at a couple key moments in the game and bet the other team.
Of course you could pay a qb a lot to intentionally throw a pick six or two, but thats more obvious.

Maybe get rid of conference tie ins. The top bowl picks their top two non playoff teams regardless of conference. Second best bowl then picks their teams.........

Unfortunately, with playoffs now, there won’t be enough teams wanting to schedule tough opening day matchups risking a higher loss probability than opening with a cupcake.

I like the idea
Increase value to sponsors
Could give bowl eligible teams extra days in Spring
Allows more time for portal players and early enrollees to prepare
It would make week 1 a nightmare for existing teams, but all marquee matchups could be managed.

I like the first game idea but do it like they do in MBB SEC/ACC challenge but in this case all of the power 4, everybody plays someone from another conference based on the previous year's performance. (1 vs 1, 16 vs 16) since Big10 and SEC have uneven amount of teams you would have to add other conferences to get the numbers to even out. NO OPT OUTS ALLOWED! Sorry Notre Dame! (Stay independent you will get penalized for having one less meaningful game)

I miss the days when New Year's Day was the culmination of the college football season. It's not even a big day anymore. For drcades it was my favorite sport but it's losing me fast. College baseball is much more fun, whether the Yankee population centers recognize it or not.

I agree. Pro and college sports amount to, at best, indentured servitude inasmuch as it is a take it or leave it proposition. Since the beginning everyone but the athletes profited from the NCAA. If that’s not slavery what is?
