I don't post on here during games very often. Typically I am watching the game. Most of the posters who post during the game are just lookikg for reasons to complain. This was far more than just during in game threads.

We play 2 LB and we send one out into coverage at times, that is probably almost always an indicator to run the ball.

What I saw was a light box with 5 or 6. Basically we’re in a nickel base. You’re going to give up some yards like that unless you bring another hat in the box.

It looked to me like Moo State was consistently getting 6-10 yards running a very quick back straight up the middle

If they were “consistently” getting 6-10 yard as you say, they would have scored 3 TD. Few teams get consistently 6-10 yard running a play without scoring points.

I did not word that well.

When they ran the play, they seemed to be consistently getting that much.

Again, not a football guru. It just looked like a weakness to me. Hoping we can figure out a way to stop it.

Others here, who seem to know a lot more than me, have pointed out that the LSU defense seems weak on stopping counters and power runs. I had to look up what counters are. But from what I can tell, that looks right.

I also note that the worst of it seemed to come late in the game, when the second team was in, It just suprised me how quickly the runner was getting to linebacker level with no one touching him. Maybe he was just that fast.

So that is 4-2-5?

Yes - the nickel is a 4-2-5.

Miss st ran the ball much more effectively than we would like. Auburn will be tougher. And their qb runs well. Qb does not throw the ball very well. More importantly bama Texas and tenn have seen it or will see it. And if we don’t figure it out those games will be ugly

Now you are going to have to excuse some football dumbassery.

If you are facing a team that is not much of a passing threat, why run the nickel?

The issue with teams going heavy and running on our base nickel is that I don’t know who we would use as the 3rd LB to play a 4-3 in obvious run downs against Auburn. Who would come off the field out of the back 5?

Man. They did that every play and couldn’t get in the end zone? Or convert one single 4th down? That’s crazy

Most teams run a nickel base to get more speed on the field or to get their best 11 out there. It also gives you a safety/DB in coverage instead of a LB for teams that throw to the TEs a lot, or if they use motion/formation to get a slot WR on a LB.

Didn't say every play.
