They finished in the top 4 of the SEC. That's pretty good. Jones needs to continue to make this team better with Blakeney still here

So we fix this problem by hiring a high school coach? Isn't that going backwards?

A high school coach that has college coaching experience. The man has taken his team to the 5A state championship game for 7 straight years.
High school basketball in Louisiana is a good product. You hire him and the local talent will flock to lsu

Yep, like with Trent Johnson.
No coach has won more at the beginning of their career at LSU than Johnny Jones. He wins games and gets his players to the NBA, plain and simple.
You defend Johnny Jones' horrible year last season yet rag on Paul Mainieri for getting a national seed with an entirely new team from the year prior.
Think about that for a minute.

Pretty good with the #1 pick? There is no way that team shouldn't have at least made the tournament.
Blakeney finished season strong but with players we lost, they will be as able to put their best defender on him and key on him. He won't be able to do it alone.

What if you were one that pushed for him to be hired?

O'Neal reportedly pushed hard behind the scenes for Jones to get the job.

What a frickin joke and to think now JJ's resume has getting a player a $12M shoe deal blows my mind

Nothing about Johnny got Simmons $12M. The fact that Simmons is 6'10" and plays like a point guard got him $12M.
He can say he played for him, but he can't say he earned him any money.

He's a .500 NIT coach (1-1). Only one ever appearance.

Stephen F. Austin University has won (and played in) more NCAA tournament games last season than LSU has since Jones has been at LSU.

And what does he have to show for all that "great" work? 1 NCAAT appearance and a 0-1 record. Hell, if winning championships and getting at least to the NCAAT are the biggest goals for the the program (and I would hope they would be), then you could argue Trent Johnson has had just as good a first 4 years as Jones. In one year at LSU Trent did two things Jones has never done in 16 years as a D-1 head coach: (1) win an outright conf. championship (2) win at least 1 NCAA tournament game.
The bottom line is this, Jones has not been horrible at LSU. He has still yet to post an overall losing season or even a losing season in conf. play. That said, the question becomes whether anyone thinks the LSU program will progress any further than where they are now? Nothing in Jones' entire head coaching career seems to give any indication that will be the case. Why waste time looking for an answer that you really already know.

Have no issue with this if Jones has another season like he had last season.

LSU baseball is not equal to LSU basketball. I also wasnt really shitting on Manieri, I said the team didnt perform up to my expectations early in the season.

At this point, I'd be willing to give the Basketball team over to Coach Torina.
