Quickly becoming one of the most overstated "facts" on this board. It has easily surpassed Herman Johnson's birth size
Why is the word facts in quotations? It is a fact. Terry Bradshaw has even talked about how he is glad that Phil Robertson wasn't the same age as him as he might not have gotten the chance to play. I know a couple of guys from where I grew up that played at LA Tech with Phil Robertson and they both say that he was the real deal.

This. It's well documented in Bradshaw's book, "No Easy Game". Phil's athletic prowess is not urban legend. He was really "that" good. In Bradshaw's book, he mentions it something like "Phil was the kind of guy that had as much natural ability as anyone I'd ever seen, but would come into the locker room just before game time with squirrel guts hanging out of his pockets, and have to look at the schedule to see who we were playing".
Phil also has a brother named Tommy, who is two years older. In high school, Tommy was a receiver/db, and from what I've heard, Tommy actually had more pro interest than Phil (as a bd). In high school though, they were a very prolific duo - Phil as a soph QB, Tommy as a Sr receiver. Si was unbelievably skinny, but pretty tough. He broke his arm early in his high school career, and couldn't play after that.
It's a good story now, Phil being this "great" quarterback. Sometimes stories like that get embellished over the years, to make the story better. From hearing from those that were there though, he was a fantastic quarterback.

Did you know Chad Jones pitched AND won a National Championship in baseball and also played for the football team AND won a National Championship in football?
FIFY. It's like not giving a doctor the accolades they deserve. Give him all the props you can because it will probably never happen again in our lifetime where one guy plays on the baseball and football teams and wins the NC.

Tommy was second team Class AA all-state at quarterback in 1961. That's back when AAA was the highest class.
The pic of Si above is from his junior year. Dunno if that's considered early in one's career.

"fantastic"
The dude sucked. This is a classic case of revisionist history because, 40 plus years later, he is now on a TV show.
Here were his stats at La Tech:
quote:
Over three seasons, from 1965-67 -- his final two as starter -- Robertson was 179-for-411 passing for 2,237 yards and 12 TDs, but threw 34 interceptions for Tech (which was 8-20 in that span).
So he completed less than 44% of his passes, threw almost 3 times as many INTs as TDs, and had a 8-20 record. But yeah, he was a great one
There is video of him playing against Bama that some people have pointed to as some sort of evidence of how good he was. That game was played in 1966. His stats from that year?
90 of 205, (43.9%), for 1,011 yards, 4 TDs, and 18 INTs, while leading Tech to a 1-9 record. Nothing good in any of that
In his 2 years as a starter, Tech averaged 11.9 points a game
To compare those stats to the times back then, Terry Bradshaw's career numbers were:
424 of 807, (52.5%), for 6,589 yards and 39 TDs and 42 INTs.
As the full-time starter in 1968 and 1969, Bradshaw was 312 of 587, (53.2%), for 5,204 yards, 36 TDs and 29 INTs, while leading Tech to a 17-4 record.
Tech also averaged 31.8 points a game, an improvement of almost 20 points over that Phil Robertson led offense from the 2 previous seasons
