or maybe it's because after 100 freaking years of tiger games in baton rouge, the city has still not figured out traffic flows.
the city still provides no real traffic cops. they have no idea how to wave cars. really, it's just pathetic.
so if i didn't live near campus i would leave early too.

I'm so sick of people batting their chest and scolding the fans that choose to leave midway through the 4th quarter in a blowout.
They all assume that all 92,000 fans are exactly like them. Not everyone lives in Baton Rouge. Some people have kids at home. Some people don't feel like going to bed at midnight. Some people actually have work tomorrow morning, it goes on and on.
The sheer ignorance never seems to surprise me.

We just go back to the tailgate for 45 minutes, casually pick everything up and watch whatever game is still on...
By that point, contraflow has ended and I can be back home in 15 minutes.

I'm sure most of the fans that live close to campus do the same.
I just find it amazing to bash someone for *gasp* leaving the game with 8 minutes left when they live in say Slidell or NOLA with a babysitter watching their kids.
I mean God forbid they try to get home in time to tell them goodnight or anything.

I don't get it, people complained all season that we weren't performing up to par and that we weren't dominating anybody. Yesterday we actually dominated someone and what do people do? Start leaving at the end of the 3rd quarter...I just don't get it..TS is so lame now.
I heard that Bob Davie said something about it and made fun of the LSU fans leaving early. Is that true?

The traffic excuse might be the lamest of them all.. It just seems like the other schools I see play on national TV keep people in the stands if they're winning big.

other big time schools' fans have the same issues, but most stick around much longer.

If you can't stay late because you live far away or you have kids at home...
Don't Go.
Why spend the money and go all that way just to be a bad fan? I'd rather TS have 70,000 crazy fans than 45,000 real fans and 45,000 who can't stay up late.

Not a damn thing wrong with leaving with about 5 minutes left in a blowout. No sense staying the last 5 painful minutes watching LSU try not to score, the other guys getting half their offensive yardage against LSU's scrubs.
Leaving before the 4th quarter is a bit worrisome though. LSU fans are some of the worst about this.

Yeah, I meant the people that leave before halfway through the 4th. Which on Saturday night was far too many.

it looked like we were going to run up the score last night. we were throwing late in the game and bringing the blitz

+1 I don't usually leave early unless it's against a cupcake team. But, the BR city cops and the "traffic plan" for LSU is an absolute joke. No contra flow, traffic lights left running as usual all up and down College Drive/Lee Drive, poor planning for outflow out of the new Alex box lots, etc.
And the cops that are out there "directing" are sitting on their arse people watching instead of directing. Go to a Saints game and watch the NOPD directing traffic. They know how to direct.

As for leaving early..
Although many love the Tigers. Jim Hawthorne is many peoples true passion. They just can not wait to get to the car and listen to Hawthorne.
I think the traffic has not been bad at all this year. A little common sense will tell you anytime you have 100,000 people in one place there will be traffic.
I know going down Burbank this year has been no problem at all for me.

I couldn't believe they were letting the light at Perkins and Acadian just go through its normal cycle. They usually have a cop there controlling the light but for some reason he wasn't there this past Saturday. That traffic blew.

Disagree: Look at the Virginia Tech game in 07: a ton of people left in the 3rd qtr. Same for Arizona that year.

I understand there's going to be traffic. But having been going to games since ~1982, I can say that the traffic has gotten worse over the past two seasons because of the lack of contra flow (that existed at one time), and the lack of controlling traffic lights all the way to the interstate in every direction, not just up Nicholson. And the plan changes every week. One week, they're advising you to take Burbank. The next week, they're advising you to take River Road, and the week after that, they're advising you to take Nicholson. Used to be, the traffic was 10X better (during the Saban years when there was 100,000 people on campus).

frick, even the traffic was better under Saban
I feel lucky now, I just commented Saturday how much better the traffic has been this year on Burbank.

I don't know, maybe the earlier part of this decade or the early part of the dinardo years?

I love to watch the game it's just I'd prefer spending 10 minutes less in the stadium than I would spending TWO HOURS in traffic.
I'm going to the Tulane game next week and I will stay for the entire game and cheer no matter if we are up by 40 points. I'll enjoy and savor every minute I have with my team and the victory.
