But that doesn't really answer why. If removing of the hat shows respect, why is there a "tradition" or "code" allowing our military personell or police to show disrespect?

No excuse? Do you go out and look for people to act the way you want them to act? Here's some advice that you can ignore if you want: just take people and their actions for what they are and don't expect much out of other people. People aren't going to act the way you want them to unless they feel compelled to do so.

that was an ironic use of a word that he had just thrown at people.
i don't need to curse to lay out arguments.

I've pretty much run roughshod over any argument that people have thrown out already.

You're supposed to wear green on St. Patty's day too.

It shows respect for the great St. Patrick, who died for our sins ... or something like that.

Not removing your hat is unamerican imo

stupidest post ever on TD.com....

my grandfather was a Sgt. in the Marines during WWII and he seldom took off his hat... i asked him once why he didn't take off his hat (fedora) every time and he, a pastor his entire life, proceeded to tell me that it's not about what's on your head, only what's in your heart...

the entire taking off the hat/cap during the anthem is a man made construct that has become a culturally accepted manuever that makes those that do feel "included"...

There's no point in arguing with you anymore. frick it. I don't care anymore. If you want to wear your hat during the National Anthem, nothing is stopping you. I was just saying it's respectful to do it. You can eat shite and die for all I care. I've got better things to do today.

Are you always a self-righteous, pretentious douche bag? I'd seriously like to see you say half the things you write behind a computer in public.

No, You have pretty much proved that you don't assign any value to patriotic customs.

The lack of civility, patriotism, and respect being shown by many in our country. I fear that this will ultimately be our downfall as a country. The excuses and rationalization shown by people for bad behavior is laughable. I do hope that history does not repeat itself, ala rise and fall of the Roman empire.

i already told you buddy. I don't wear hats. My hair is way too nice.

but i also laugh and cringe when i see people trying to enforce their social code on people when it really has nothing to do with them. I wonder what's going on with you that you feel the need to try and coerce other people into what you feel is acceptable behavior to you. Maybe when you grow up a little bit, you'll be self assured enough to realize that other people don't need to be doing exactly what you're doing to validate your own self-worth or give you a measuring stick for you own actions.

There's no point in arguing. We won't win. Just let them do what they want. I'm just going to enjoy the rest of football season (and take my hat off during the national anthem like a true patriot) and won't pay any attention to the people that don't.
