It’s a LONG season. I wouldn’t punch anyone’s ticket just yet. Plus, ND is kind of screwed by the current system in that they can’t get a top 4 seed no matter how well they play. But, that is the downside of not being in a conference.

Week 1 is often the biggest overreaction week…good and bad.

Notre Dame can’t be seeded any higher than #5 per the CFP rules because they’re not in a conference and don’t have to play in a conference championship game. They actually got something right for a change. I’m very surprised that Notre Dame wasn’t able to politic their way out of that.

This. Logically, it’s a wash. Notre Dame won’t have to play a conference championship game, yet Notre Dame will never have a bye, and conference champions will.

FWIW, Notre Dame tried really hard to get into the Big Ten and Michigan kiboshed that whole deal. Michigan did not allow them in.

Notre Dame will be the highest ranked non-conference champion. They’ll be in the top 5 by the time the playoffs role around (barring USC having a pulse on defense) with the entire national media sucking them off. Then they’ll run in to a well coached team with the same talent level, or better, than aTm and get their shite pushed in. Same story, different format. It’s the entire reason Kelly left for LSU.

Easy now. They didn’t look very good. I could see them losing a game they shouldn’t and getting beat badly by either fsu or usc. Season just started.

Possible, but a&m is going to be bad. This win will mean nothing in the future

The playoffs and Notre Dame

.... are a myth. Notre Dame looked far from impressive last night; they only got people's attention because they edged a seriously overrated Aggy unit on the road.

Notre Da*m loses two games this year, book it. I believe they falter on October 19 @ Georgia Tech. That won't be easy. And I believe they get CRUSHED in the L.A. Coliseum vs SC, for the fabled "jewelled Shillelagh".

Notre Da*m needs to count their shamrocks before seeking that pot o' gold.

I do not think for a minute that the choice of teams will not be influenced by the $ and what the biggest TV audience will bring. After all NCAA football is bought and paid for by the fine folks at network TV.
