Funny you say that. A week ago Bradford Doolittle on ESPN proposed going to something called the GSW method (game score wins) for this very reason. At the time of the article, Skenes would be 11-5 in GSW. I think it compares how the two pitchers competing in a game do compared to each other and may even account for the fact that it’s a lot harder for Skenes facing the Dodgers lineup when they play then the other pitcher facing the Pirates lineup.

This team will add a few hitters and already has one of the best pitching staffs in the league. When they make Don Kelly the permanent coach, they will contend for the NL Central and a wildcard spot next season. And Skenes has implied as much. He knows they have a team that is closer than most people think.

It would look a lot like Hunter Brown’s record for the Astros.

Of course after I post this I see the Pirates just swept the Cards, swept the Mets before that and have won 9 of their last 10.

You sure about that? They have John Fischer 2.0 as their owner. Truthfully, Skenes could say or do whatever he wants. If he however wants to keep pitching in MLB he has to pitch for the Pirates for at least another 4 years if the Pirates want it. He reaches arbitration after next season. My guess is he’s gone before his first arbitration hearing. Pittsburgh isn’t paying him or anyone else. The owner his quite content with how things have been going. He’s making more money than ever before.
