If the SEC did finish 44-4, it could make the computers so SEC heavy, the whole BCS would be messed up...possibly even sending (gasp) 2 SEC teams to the CG.

If LSU beats Florida, and loses to Alabama who would go undefeated, lose to UF in the championship game; could it be LSU vs. Florida in the Championship?

Maybe I didn't word that correctly.

Voters in many polls already have USC ahead of LSU.

If you don't believe me, look it up. Where do you think they'll put LSU with a loss, no matter if it's the #1 team they lost to. Hell, we beat the team they lost to at their place, we don't have a loss, and yet still, we are behind them.

How do we get ahead in these peoples' minds?

We did in 2007 and Florida did in 2008. I think LSU should be above USC (because of the UW loss), but both of USC's wins against Cal and OSU are arguably better than anything on LSU's resume...that is why a few select have USC above.

If LSU loses in 4 OTs to Florida, you are right...LSU falls below USC. But if LSU beats undefeated AU and Bama, then Ole Miss and then beats UF in the SECCG - I think most voters bump LSU. And for the few that don't, it doesn't matter.

Beat our opponents that we are expected to beat in the manner that we are expected to beat them or better. Games like USC/Cal where it was expected to be close or an upset and USC crushes them, that's what bumps them up in people's minds. Voters have a short memory.

I would think the voters do what they can to avoid that as long as another option is available. If USC or Virginia Tech for example have 1-loss, they probably would be ranked higher. Moreover, their computer ranking would be higher or comparable. The fact that LSU would be missing out on that SECCG versus a top 5 opponent would keep their computer ranking in check.

But yes, an LSU/Florida NC rematch would be feasible.

'07 lsu did not win in style in any way, shape or form with two losses and yet made it to the ncg so i don't buy this theory. see also '01 ohio st and '06 florida

It changes year to year and we can all agree that '07 was a special year.

Great stuff, but you forgot Iowa in your Big 10 summary.

I'm waiting to see how this thread changes when LSU loses and finds itself looking up at Boise in the polls. Bring SOS back into the mix. Without it, the BCS is utter nonsense, and crystal balls are nothing but glass.

LSU's 2 losses in '07 were both in triple-OT road games against ranked SEC teams... NOBODY else in the country that year, and probably in the entire history of NCAA football, could claim that... it's a combination of the respect for the SEC (and that year it was very high across the country, as it is this year), and the fact that every other team who had a loss could not claim that their 1 or 2 losses were anything like LSU's... and I guarantee you that LSU's schedule, both in the '07 year and this year, is tougher than any of those teams that were/are involved...

The Arkansas loss came at home, not on the road, and Arkansas was unranked. I'm pretty sure that was Miles' first loss to an unranked opponent while coaching LSU.

case in point, USC/Stanford circa '07. USC loses straight-up mid-season as a 41 point home fav., in prolly the biggest upset of all time.

yet, they only dropped six spots in the polls the following week.

yep, you are right, Carl... braincramp on my part... guess I was thinking because they had mcfadden/jones/dick/hillis/monk/etc that they were ranked when they played us... and though they did play like they were ranked, I should know better..
we had prety much owned them for several years, so they really did a job on us here at TS... and it appears at somebody liked they way they played that day, ole miss sure scooped up their coach right quick... anyhoo...
