I started a thread after Auburn stating Louisiana Tech, Ole Miss, and UF were the most moderate stretch of defenses we were going to face. As such, they offered a great chance to improve our numbers. I didn't update that thread last week after the UF loss - didn't want to seem like I was piling on after a loss - so let's look at it this week.

LSU currently ranks (out of 130) - ranking 4 weeks ago:

77th - 105th in yards/play
70th - 112th in yards/game

53rd - 95th in rushing yards/att
37th - 92nd in rushing yards/gm

76th - 96th in passing yards/att
101st - 106th in passing yards/gm
99th - 106th in passer rating

90th - 112th in 3rd down conversions

SEC ranks, current - previous:

12th - Last in yards/play
8th - Last in yards/game

6th - Last in rushing yards/att
9th - Last in rushing yards/gm

12th - Last in passing yards/att
T-8th - Last in passing yards/gm
12th - Last in passer rating

11th - Last in 3rd down conversions

Rushing stats have improved significantly. Passing stats have increased a bit too.

These are season averages so our rough start offensively drags the numbers down on across the board, but we certainly have been better over the last 4 weeks than we were in the first 3. We can thank our good friends in Oxford for the bulk of the improvement.

Nah, I was just using the same title I used when I started the thread post Auburn for the sake of continuity.

We've been much closer to our historical rushing offensive efficiency the past 4 weeks. It's nice to see, to say the least.

Took be a second to figure out what you were showing here. That’s probably why there are some downvotes.

Very cool and good correction as a team!

So you mention Ole Miss bc they have a weak D and not the 475 put up against a GA D that was surrendering only 283ypg.

Curious.

In your opinion which offensive statistics are the most important?

You didn't post the amount of offensive plays per game?
You didn't post time of possession?
You aren't taking into account the lead we had verse top notch teams?
You are not taking into account the defenses we have played?
You are not taking into account the fact that EVERY team has a letdown after a big win... Especially when you consider teams like Bama haven't had a big game...
And most importantly you are not mentioning the turnovers?
If your going to post about statistics, please include the positive and some possible reasons....

I see reusing the title was too much for some. Let the DVs pour in though.

Good stuff. People are going to downvote off the title and not read the OP

I see critical thinking isn't your strong suit. With respect to season long averages, do you think a game where we had 573 yards and 7.64 yards per play are a bigger help, or would it be the 475 yards and 5.86 ypp?

Five Factors, but I didn't lock those in after the Auburn game, so I can't exactly post how we've improved in that regard.

Critical thinking would be weighing output vs quality defenses otherwise it's just numbers. And that 475 was our 2nd highest output against the best D so it would be reasonable to expect.

You made two points:
1. You expected improvement vs moderate defenses (not sure why you called UF a mod defense)
2. Ole Miss gave us a boost in numbers

While both may be true (sans UF) it does appear an offhanded compliment to offensive improvement. So again, why leave off the most notable improvement from the GA game?

Everything was new to start the season. Green QB, rotating OL's, several starters went down and reserves stepped up well. Progress is unfolding and we will continue to grow and build confidence. We're still early.
Hold the reigns, Ethel, we're just getting started

It was always just numbers. These are raw ranks vs the rest of the country. People were saying our early numbers sucked because Miami and Auburn had good defenses. Going up against a stretch of marginal defenses while the rest of the country played a few more weeks was a great chance to increase our numbers. That was the point of the entire thread 4 weeks ago.

Also, that 475 is good for the total yards but Ole Miss helped improve the YPP stat dramatically too.

It's only a slight because you misunderstood. It's simply pointing out the fact that Ole Miss offered our highest total yards, highest yards per play, highest rushing yards, highest rushing yard per attempt, highest passing yards, highest passing yards per attempt, and highest passer rating all year.

Saying thank you to Ole Miss is not an understatement.

To me it seems like the best stat to look at is how our numbers compare to the opponents average.
Passing(vs LSU) Rushing (vs LSU)
Miami Avg: 130 (140) 105 (156)
Southeastern:
Auburn: 208 (249) 126 (121)
La Tech: 188 (191) 158 (218)
Ole Miss: 289 (292) 209 (281)
Florida: 160 (192) 164 (180)
Georgia: 174 (200) 136 (275)

This is only a brief snapshot and I couldn't easily find team stats for Southeastern but we've beaten the rushing and passing averages of every team we've played except Auburn in rushing and that was close.

I mean, the title is still accurate despite improvements

Without further improvement, we could legit lose 3 more regular season games.
