All new coaches are given a couple of years free ride to get their systems implemented, coaching staffs solidified and start recruiting the kind of players they need. He'd need to be back up to 10 wins by his third year or so, though, or he'd get some pressure.

The "breaking in" period that you speak of would be expected by the powers that be, not so much by the fans.

1999 - 3-8
2000 - 7-4
2004 - 9-2
2005 - 10-1

At LSU, we're not accustomed to having coaches come in and having to adjust, our last two had immediate success.

but I can admit that if he goes 7-5(3-5), 9-3(5-3), and something in that range this year, he's likely gone at the end of the season.

If coach miles gets canned after going 58-20 or 60-18, which would be his record under your scenario, good luck finding a coach who wants to babysit this spoiled fanbase

The fact that he would go 58-20 isn't the problem. It's the fact that for a three year period, he would have gone 23-13. That is unacceptable for an upper-tier SEC school, and I would think this would be common knowledge. How many 7-5 or 8-4 seasons should we tolerate before firing a coach just because he went 34-6 in his first three seasons?

At LSU, double-digit win seasons are expected to be the norm, not the odd-year experience.

Are you sayig expecting 10 wins a year every year is the norm and LSU fans will not settle for only winning 10 games every other year?

Do you realize this decade is the best one LSU has ever had with exactly five of the 10 seasons being below 10 win ones?

I will not even mention how many 10 win seasons came before that.

Any good, young, overconfident coach will not blink an eye to make several million dollars a year coaching a perennial top 20 team with 4 and 5 * athletes, top notch facilities, and national recognition....regardless of the fan base. You would do exactly the same if you had the skill set.

We were one play away from a 10-win season last year, which would make 4/5 for Miles' career and yet there are thousands of fans clamoring for his release.

I also know that until halfway through the decade, there were only 11 games in the season, even further skewing the success that we've enjoyed.

You don't really need to. I'm sure the number would fit on one hand. The reality is that regardless of the empirical success our team has, it will not equate to the expectations in a given year.

Only because Miles put double-digit win seasons back to back for the first time in LSU history. (Not to mention he put them back-to-back-to-back)

No, not even King Saban had back-to-back 10+ win seasons.

Too much buyout $$$$ and can you imagine what we would look like after we fire a guy that is right now 53-13? Not going to happen.. he has at least one more year.

It's ironic, isn't it?

Also, it's easier to get to double-digit wins when you have an extra game....

Bama and Florida are guaranteed losses. We are outgunned coaching wise by a wide margin and also there is a talent gap ( not quite as much as people think ).

Didn't know there was a talent drop between us and those teams. If there was, I don't think a lot of us would be as frustrated with the coaching staff.

Miles is NOT going anywhere unless we dump 7 of the next 10 games. That is not going to happen.

Anything other than a complete meltdown and Miles will be back. And when I say meltdown I mean a loosing SEC record and some ugly wins against the cupcakes on the schedule.

@Auburn, better teams have lost...
@Arkansas is a loss.

First off, there is no talent gap. Period.

Second off, you're an idiot. We should just forfiet the games against Fla and Bama and whoever else you think we have no chance against. I repeat, you're an idiot.

The guy on the left, from what I hear, may well be willing to babysitting this spoiled fanbase.
