i really love these douche bags that come in here and try this shite .. they always wind up looking like the biggest idiot in the neighborhood ... if the writing in here is below our resident Chaucer, perhaps he needs to see about gaining entrance to the MENSA forum so he can use his Thesaurus on the dicitionary.com app to find that special 7-syllable word that will wow them !

that was awful. The sentence construction was "poor" at best, words and clauses changed tone and agreement randomly...and the style was not indicative of the subject or the tone he wanted to convey.

Another hack writer who needs to stop using the "thesaurus" right click in MS Word.

absolutely pathetic.

You're the douchebag who started complaining that Warner was using words that are too big for you, and sentences that cause your attention deficit disorder to kick in after the second comma

there's intelligence, then there is a blatant attempt to write over your core audience's head and/or pretend to be an aficionado of said style .. the truly intelligent can communicate with everyone from the CEO to the guy driving the forklift on the dock .. the truly intelligent one is the guy that doesn't have to tell you how smart he is or show you how smart he is, because it is just obvious .. which one are you ?

One of the things that jumped out at me was his use of the word "decadence" to describe the state of LSU football in the 90s.

Now technically, going by one of the Webster definitions, it's not incorrect. IMHO, however, it's used poorly. It's not the word that comes to mind, it has a different association. "Declining" or "decaying" would have been better choices.

I'm confused as to the relevance of this statement. First and foremost where is it implied that you MUST have attended or graduated from a school to be a fan or have a claim to the school? How does the fact that you did make you any more or less of a "Fan"? I'm pretty sure that most every tax payer in this state can be considered to have a vested interest in any of the public colleges that survive based not only on YOUR tuition but OUR tax dollars. I know plenty of former alumni or parents of alumni who would be considered Negatigers ahead of non-affiliated random "fans".

Cheer LSU losses?

You aren't serious. We don't cheer for losses. Try again.

They are normally the best type of fan. They don't have to invest so much of their lives into a university they didn't attend. But they do it, out of love. Kind of like you don't pick your family, but you love them. But your best buddy is someone you're not related to, but you would walk through fire for him.

one of the many misuses of words I saw....

Another was a "...winning percentage of 0.815."

Is the moron Warner actually saying Miles only wins 0.815% of his games, or did he mean a winning percentage of 81.5.

pathetic and sad.

The guy is a literal moron, and attempts to "sound" smart by using a thesaurus. Too bad the "tone" he wants to convey becomes muddled in the process due to the varying word choices that may or may not actually fit with the overall theme.

It's just poorly written anyway you look at it. I find it hilarious anyone would advertize their books following that drivel.

I agree that Warner is in over his head when he tries to write a piece in this style. However, what I don't agree with is that there is no value to sports writing as good literature in the right context. Not all sports writing must be done in accordance with the basic rules of structure taught in fundamental English composition classes, the purpose of which is to drag people from illiteracy into basic writing competence. If you can find them, go read some of Herbert Warren Wind's writing in "The New Yorker" on various major golf tournaments, the Masters in particular. It's priceless.

and, sadly, this is the first faction of fan that LSU has priced out of Tiger Stadium .. and THE reason why we have ESPN announcers embarrassingly commenting on how empty Tiger Stadium is in a game with two ranked teams that is still hanging in the balance ..
