re: The location of the student section in the PMAC for basketball is killing the environment.

Why? Is it considered uncool to stand at a basketball game and have fun?
A few years ago the rant used to complain about how the people sitting in the front rows of the student section actually making noise weren't cool looking enough and looked like freaks.

Pretty sure it was 2010. A few dumbass students at the time petitioned to have it moved.

It’s not just the students that aren’t loud. General admission which makes up like 75% or whatever don’t get loud either. The whole atmosphere is just anti climatic

What is it then? Just a fall off of interest in college basketball?
I don't know. A combo of factors. Most obvious to me is the basketball culture in BR isn't what it was in the 80s-early 90s. And that's not a flip of the switch change.

The whole lower seating dimensions need to be remodeled IMO
Make it a rectangle instead of an oval, move the seats closer to the court, and have the student section courtside.

We used to camp out for tickets rotating on 2-4 hour shifts with friends on a first come first serve basis. But that was during the Chris Jackson then Shaq days.
there was one year when the weather wasn't good and dale had us camp out in the concourse.

The idea was killed with the designers told Skip it would result in a loss of about 1,500 seats.

When I was a student we had sections 103, 104, 204 and 205 plus a few more sections.
And we, Bengal Brass, we’re right next to you in 203.

In Brady and a little bit of Johnson’s tenure the crowds were pretty rowdy. See Arizona 2000, Arizona 2002, Kentucky 2000, Kentucky 2002, Kentucky 2006, Tennessee 2000, Tennessee 2006 and Florida 2009. Those were a few I remember. I also remember going to games from 2000- 2009 there was a tall guy in the student section that wore a Lamont Roland Jersey (goat). When he left it all went down hill.

I’m sure at the time that decision made sense given we were still in the feast and famine years of John Brady and we could go the next year with a semblance of a run and it would get packed again. Now after the Johnson and Jones years with how low the lows are Wade is truly rebuilding the fan base from scratch.
Taking out 1500 seats would still leave plenty and would be worth it to reconfigure

I remember all those games except Tennessee 2000, though I know I was there. Anything interesting happen that you remember?

Camped out for UConn starting at 8AM Friday morning for a Saturday 8PM game.

Alleva is the one who moved the student section. Not skip. Started in 2010

Yeah that’s what I said earlier. What the post you are referrring to is about reconfiguring the seats in the PMAC to be a rectangular shape so that the fans are right on top of the court like more modern stadiums. I’m not sure of the exact timeline but what the poster I responded sounds correct. We renovated the PMAC somewhat under Skip but we didn’t want to sacrifice capacity for some more modern things like a rectangular config and luxury boxes.
