I requested a sticky.

That should be on the homepage too.

I also think people should email that to ALL of their friends. That is the kind of publicity we need and the kind of journalism that deserves to be read.

I posted it on the SEC Rant. I wonder if they'll even try to read it.

Great, GREAT article. I'll be keeping an eye on Wright Thompson for sure.

What's the deal with Saban and his son? I've never heard anything about it.

Complicated. Adopted. Strict dad. Troubled son. Nick Jr. is a cool guy though. Friend of mine in HS.

"On Friday nights before home games, he takes the boys onto the field at Tiger Stadium. The lights are on, creating halogen daylight on the river side of campus. The stadium is empty, nearly 93,000 seats waiting for fans. Tomorrow, this place belongs to work. Tonight, it belongs to family. Miles takes out a football and plays catch with his boys."

That is frick'n awesome!

Nothing wrong with that - there might have been some dust in my eyes as well.

I ran into him at Target last year the week before Homecoming. He was with his daughter buying some school supplies or something. I said good luck and he walked over shook my hand and asked if I went to LSU. I said no, Ole Miss and he chuckled. I explained my fan-dom to him and he said Thanks and was on his merry way. Great dude.

Absolutely outstanding. I'm in awe of Thompson's capability with the written word. Have been for some time. He's written some great stuff on Brazil's poverty & the closing of an iconic bar in New York, and somehow weaved their meaning as they relate to sports into it.

I've tried to describe this piece several times, but the bottom line is its just a great piece of writing.

He manages to make you view Les Miles as something more than what he's portrayed...which hasn't been done...

For a former English Major, Thompson brings the goods, in my opinion. What a great story for LSU Fans to enjoy.

Kudos, Mr. Thompson!

I don't care if we don't win the SEC or National Championship every year. As long as we're competitive and win 9+ games a year with the occasional title run, I want Miles at LSU for the next 20 years.

This just absolutely wrenches me inside. In a great way, though. Just clutches at you.

The guy actually thanked him for bringing up something that's obviously precious & poignant to him. Just amazing...

quote:

"How much would your dad have liked next Saturday?" a visiting reporter asks him, standing at the door to his office.

Five seconds pass. When he finally speaks, his voice is low and quiet. The look on his face is difficult to describe, but he seems, for a moment, to be somewhere else.

"It would have been awfully important to him," Miles says.

He looks up.

"Can I tell you something? I don't know if I would have got to that. That question you just asked. I don't know that I would have gotten to that today. Think about how wonderful that was. Let me just say how wonderful that was for me. Thank you."
