This is the real reason I believe we struggle so much in guarding the three. It really struck me last night that when other teams get in the lane our team is always sagging down to help giving open looks outside. We have no shot blocker in the middle like last year and its hurting us. We are not like those smaller teams in the past like Villanova who could match 3 with 3's. When we pressed at the end we couldnt stop them from scoring inside the lane because we have no size. Akso they blocked like 20 of our shots, it was crazy. I commend our guys for hustle but unless we can either get a rim protector or our 3 point % goes up considerably we will struggle in the tourney

Didn't we have one committed before our glorious former AD suspended Wade?

No doubt but last night was the first time it’s made a huge difference

The lack of a solid point guard who can move the ball is realllllly killing us.

Not committed but on the verge of committing. He is at Oregon and isn't playing a lot so who knows if he would have helped us much this year but he definitely would have been better than having no one.

In other words, losing Naz Reid and Tremont Waters, and not having folks to fill those roles, really hurts...

Nope. The lack of a true playmaker is killing us.

18-19: LSU frontline - 6'10 Reid/6'10 KBW. (8th in SEC in Def. efficiency)

17-18: LSU frontline - 6'10' Reath/6'10" Epps (12th in SEC in Def. efficiency)

Trivia question:

Q. Who is the SEC leader in defensive efficiency?
A. Arkansas

Q. Whose tallest starter is 6'6"?
A. Arkansas

So please, continue to tell us how the lack of a big man is "killing" this team defensively? Particularly in light of the fact that they had TWO big men in each of the previous two seasons and STILL couldn't crack the top half of the league in defensive efficiency.

We need a true point guard and some shooters. We have a bunch of athletes that want to drive to the basket and no one who can knock down 3’s at a consistent rate.

Arkansas is 8th in the conference in defensive efficiency in conference play. Their season long numbers are inflated by a mediocre out of conference schedule.

Yes we are running the Pack defense because of this which is partly why the 3 is so there for opponents.

100%

our only big is seldom under the rim

Kentucky having 11 blocks was the difference. Hard fought game though

Our defense looked fine when we were playing poor teams. We were also grabbing every board both offensively and defensively. Things changed when we started playing against some size. Hell, Herb Jones grabbed how many rebounds with one hand?

I've been saying for a while now that the lack of a big man is the biggest reason that teams shoot so well against us. when teams get past our guards and get to the paint, we have to completely collapse on that guy to avoid an easy lay in - leaving guys wide open for kick out 3's. If we had a 7 footer that could alter shots and provide a presence in the paint, then we could stick to our man on the outside instead of having to collapse on every drive to the rim.

Arkansas's defensive stats were built crazy high in ooc play. they've been getting gashed lately - I highly doubt they have the highest efficiency in SEC play.

No, what kills us is we never put any kind of pressure on guys on the perimeter which allows them to easily beat us with the dribble or a wide open shot.

Not really

We were great when Days played. The rebounding comes and goes with him and foul trouble.

We out rebounded UK but 12 and had 23 offensive rebounds against those monsters down low.

You mean like Vanderbilt. A sub 150 offensive team who has averaged 61 points against every other SEC opponent but scored 99 vs. LSU?

Or maybe you were talking about Mizzou. A sub 140 offensive team who against LSU somehow managed to shoot their highest FG% on the road this year...by 17 percentage points compared to their second best outing!!!

Or perhaps Texas. Currently ranked 170 in offensive efficiency. A team that shoots an average of 39% in Big 12 play, but shot 48% vs. LSU.

You don't get to be the 180th ranked defensive team by just letting the good offensive teams light you up. No, you get there by being an equal opportunity poor defender

You know LSU won the rebounding battle last night by 10, right? They also won the offensive rebounding battle by 8.

LSU won the points in the paint battle vs. a big USC frontline by 20. They won it by 18 vs. a big Florida frontline. They won by 14 vs. a big Miss. St. frontline.

After 13 SEC games LSU remains in the top 15 in the NATION in total rebounding % AND 2 point fg %. They are 8th in the country in offense rebounding %

Agree totally no big man is knocking down threes with a hand in his face prolly not even taking one, much less draining them as they have of late against LSU. The way Wade is recruiting (5*s) our team will look more like Kentucky in future years, we won’t have players that long and our team will look completely different every other year just be glad we can talk basketball and be in the conversation for the tournament much less the SEC Championship, hell we just won the SEC 9 months ago.
