1) unexpected
2) unexpected

When you couple the above with the media slant favoring LSU, SEC, and Miles after our success in the NC game,......

I'm saying that it would be ironic for LSU to lose to that specific opponent....a team loss that dogged Michigan all year long!

...and you'll note that I conceded that the subject of your post might be ironic under that definition, but that the remainder of your post contained scant traces of irony.

Define "Irony": A plane full of idiots singing a song made famous by a band killed in a plane crash.

Wouldn't it be strangely circumstantial/surreal/"fill in your favorite word" to describe the public response to an outcome wherein:

an under-rated team (who started all the hype for a replacement for Michigan's head coach by defeating Michigan in its own stadium 1st game of year) should defeat the defending National Champion LSU (the very team who put a stamp on SEC dominance over Big 10 last year -and- whose coach happened to be "in the mix" for taking that Michigan job)?

Extra pressure on Miles to "not let that happen"?

Tried to start an honest discussion without worrying about passing an English quiz, but not gonna happen here.

Besides the loss being unexpected...

The 4 things you mentioned that would follow, would be expected if we lose. It would be ironic if we lost to App St and then...

1) There weren't comparisons to Miles / Michigan / Michigan losing to App st.

2) Big 10 fans don't use the loss as ammo in the SEC vs Big 10 debate.

3) That not one Gump posts on here, that we cant win without Saban's players.

Now that would be unexpected.

To my point, the only thing I described as being ironic would be "a loss to App. State".....unexpected!

The remainder of the discussion was around the fact that the connectivity between Michigan, App. State, and LSU would create a media circus.....I agree, all of those outcomes would be expected....

yes, the media response would be expected.....that is the outcome of the ironic loss....... thus, creating greater pressure on Miles than a normal OOC loss might do...... because it would "undo" -or- at least "rewind" last year's season and all the events that transpired after the shocking loss by Michigan to App. State on Opening Day 2007 (including Miles' dance with Michigan during the SEC Championship).
