to me a choke job is when your leading big and still lose... hence for me it is the UT game post Katrina...

The worst, or most amusing depending on how you look at it, is that the refs were in WVU's pocket so hard for that game and they still lost.

I'm not big into conspiracy theories, but it appeared to me that the Big East wanted to put somebody into the MNC BAD!

Aint that the truth.... some of those phantom holding calls... wow!

Stanford at USC? I mean that's a bigger upset than App State beating UM. 41 point underdog and yet it's forgotten by the Media.

After we lost to Arky last season and WVU was suddenly in the driver's seat to the NC, I saw some lil punk on ESPN holding up a sign saying "THANKS LSU!"

I hope he's reading this.

Is showing on ESPNU right now - 2007 Pitt v. West Virginia. What a day that was for the Tigers.

Whew, you meant football.... I was a little worried when I clicked on the thread, though I must admit that I was a little curious, maybe even aroused....

I still think Appy State over UM was bigger.

Granted, I don't have the disdain for USC that most on this board do

LSU - UAB?

That's got to be near the top. Others to consider, involving LSU, are Kentucky (Bluegrass Miracle), and LSU @ Auburn in 1994 (Jamie Howard), and Auburn @ LSU 2005, where Auburn Kicker John Vaughn missed approximately 20 FG attempts, any one of which would have won the game for Auburn. Also the Bama corners talking trash before the 2001 game in T-Town, THEN giving up 293 yards to Josh Reed alone (never seen a receiver so wide open on every reception.)

IMHO, that is nowhere near the top of the list of horrendous LSU chokes. We were an unranked team in rebuilding mode under a brand new coach coming off of a 3 win season. Now, losing your final home game of the season against an unranked Arkansas team when you are #1 in the land and playing for a national championship? That's a choke.

all we had to do was run the ball and the game was over, but Josh choked it away with the audible

We didn't choke, we were beaten...a huge difference IMO

We were in the ESPN Zone in Atlanta after the SEC Championship game earlier that day, losing our freaking minds. That was a great night, with Mizzou going down as well...

Huh? The game was tied. If we had run the ball..it...would...have...gone..to...overtime?

We came out flat and beat ourselves against Arkansas, which is why I consider it a choke. The penalties, the sloppy tackling, the horrendous gap control, the blown coverage on 4th and 10, the sheer stupidity of it all.

It was ten years ago and I was trashed, I thought we were up a field goal.

But we're never going to remember that as a choke (though you have an excellent point) because we fixed that in eight (8) days. So what you are saying is that if we had beaten Arkansas we would have had a chance to play for the BCS..... wait a minute that DID happen....

Had we beaten UAB (only a couple of years removed from their play in I-AA) we might have played in the Cotton bowl as a top 20 team (against K. State), as opposed to the Peach Bowl. I still say UAB was a choke, but your point is well taken.
