The Failed Experiment

With the exception of Tommy Tuberville's gamble on Tony Franklin as his OC, as there been a bigger blunder in college football this season than Coach Miles rolling the dice with these Co-Defensive Coordinators. Coming off a National Championship and the pick-of-the litter in DC's across the country Coach Miles went with his heart instead of his head.
It now remains to be seen if Coach Miles, like Tuberville, realizes this mistake and does the right thing at the end of the season.

Wow. In over a century of Collegiate football, I would really hope so.

Yeah, Tuberville is really liking his decision to fire Franklin mid-season. Not only did he lose his team, he lost support of the fans and administration along the way after falling to Arky and West Virginia after the firing.

don't get me wrong, I think Miles quite possibly may need to go out and get a proven DC at season's end, but that still reamins to be seen. There's still a lot of football left to be played, and if the defense improves significantly and we finish 10-2, one can't complain with the results in a definite rebuilding year in the defensive secondary and at QB.

Who else would you have recommended? They had staff experience, etc. Tenuta? Was he locked up and signed?

Firing them mid-season would only throw the season further in a hole. Even if you hired Saban as the DC, it aint like he's going to install his system mid-season!!
Nope. Gotta live with this one until the end of the season.
But the main point is still this. FOR CHRISSAKES WE WON THE F'IN NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP!!!! I'M GUESSING THAT 1 OR 2 PROVEN DCS MIGHT'VE BEEN INTERESTED IN JOINING THAT!!!!!!

I agree with you but its been a long time since LSU has given up this many points on D.
I hope we finish 10-2 and I still believe we can and I also think that Coach Miles will go out after the season and hire a new DC.

I dunno, no defending National Champion has ever allowed two or more opponents to score 50+ on them the following year - until now.

Not trying to cause an issue because believe me I hate CO anything and that's what we've been dealing with in Tub's and Co.
Simply saying, those "Proven" DC's come with a price tag and they could've been all gone by the time Miles made the call.
Miles probably thought they new Bo's system well enough from coaching under him. He more than likely wont make the mistake again.

Coach Miles said in the Advocate today that he may become more involved in coaching the defense, even though he has never coached a defensive position in his coaching career. All the more reason it appears he needs a strong DC to lean on where he doesn't need to go over there to help out.

I think Miles admitting he's taking a bigger hand in the defense when he knows he has zero defensive experience tells us fans all we need to know. I really anticipate that these DCs are already done barring a sudden and miraculous change of direction.
Did you see the look on Miles face after a couple of those defensive lapses? He was frickin pissed!!!

The McConnell promotion might've been even worse than hiring Tepper. Tepper at least was a proven coach. McConnell was a completely unknown quantity at OC.
