We were horrendous on 3rd down last night. The criticism is warranted.
It was terrible.

Yes I watched the game which is why I understand playing soft and allowing 4 straight 75 yard drives which took up most of a half was terrible strategy and isnt something to be happy about.
Adjustments should have come sooner.

bama is giving up 27 PAG against SEC teams per College Football Live. Look at who they have played. Has Saban lost it? This is just college football now.

The complaints were warranted in the first half.
Fla moved the ball in the second half as well, they just couldn't get into the endzone. It's not just scheme, it's the inability to cover receivers for 3 seconds. That defense was getting pressure to the QB, they just needed half a second longer and LSU would have had a whole lot of sacks. LSU has 1 DB who can cover a receiver for 3 seconds and he is a true freshman.

LSU has a long and proud defensive tradition, from the Chinese Bandits to today. You don’t have to be an expert to see we where getting gashed in first half. Going into the season we all heard about how Aranda had all the pieces for the first time to fully implement his defense, etc. and this would be best defense in years etc. We have great players all over the place, etc. ( to be fair this didn’t come directly from the coaches) Many of us heard rumors Arandas defense had been figured out.
Yet they gave up 4 75 yard TD drives after the first possession of the 3rd quarter and we were down by 7. We had zero sacks, no pressure, no turnovers and had given up 300 yards of offense already, while it was clear our offense could score at will on Florida’s top ranked defense. So forgive us for being a little bit cranky. For a decade, (which is not a long time for some of us), it’s has been our offense that let us down we could always count on our defense. They put together a few stops and a great goal line stand once they started blitzing and stunting and a pick and game was won. They did the job when it mattered and that’s what counts.
But that said, you will not win a Championship like this, we know it and they know it. Sooner or later this catches up to you. My questions.
1) We are halfway through the season and secondary still seems confused way too many plays. Bama will score every time on this. They either need to learn it or it needs to be simplified.
2) We need to just admit we can’t get enough pressure on anyone with just our front four. They are great run stoppers but simply not good pass rushers. We have 6 games of tape to prove it, and you are what you play like. We need to start blitzing early and often and yes sometimes you win and sometimes you lose but with our offense a few stops is all we need.
3) The three man rush and cover package is garage right now because see number two. This only is effective when you are getting pressure and show pressure causing the QB to rush throw into coverage. If he had all night to throw anyway he will just set back and take his time to hind open guy.
4) tackling is much better but still not up to LSU standards.
5) Aranda has been making adjustment at half but we there will a time on our remaining schedule when they may be too late.
In sum, with this offense we may be running wrong defense. We may need to be much more aggressive and take chances as a turnover or a few stops may be all we need with this ridiculous offense.
We are halfway home, it’s time to call it the way it is not like the way we want it to be and adjust plays, sets, personal and maybe even philosophy to what we are.

Brilliant take. “Let the D stay on the field, give up yardage and possibly points, because we know our O is good.” No way in hell that’s the plan. Dumbest take i’ve ever heard.
How bout get 3 and outs, force turnovers, pitch shutouts, and let the O run up the score?
Aranda has the talent but hasn’t been producing. Look at A&M, FL, S FL, etc. His reputation far exceeds his results.

No one would complain about yardage if the other guys weren't scoring.
In the first half they scored at will, which is why the complaints are legitimate.

Florida was 9/17 on 3rd down.
Just over 50%. We were too aggressive on 3rd and long and it got us beat quite a few times. Playing zone and simply keeping them behind the sticks instead of going for the home run play would have likely ended a few of their drives.

The crying about Aranda
I wouldn't call it 'crying' I'd call it pointing out the obvious. If his or your feelings are hurt because people point out the facts, then maybe he should share with you some of those millions of fricking dollars he makes a year to do his job. Maybe then both you sensitive creatures could sit down with a bottle of wine and share your feelings with one another. It's college football, not pop warner, these grown arse men can handle the damn criticism. So stop being a jerk!

Nice deflection, but I don't understand where you missed the blitzes on those drives that basically gave them 20 yd chunk plays to extend the drive. We weren't playing soft, so I am confused about your assumption. We were just more successful blitzing in the 2nd half.

No they didn't. The have a new D.C. Who is much more aggressive. They had one of the worst defenses in football last year

I'd just like to point out that even with our completely inept offensive performance against Bama last year, we took this approach to defense and, since you like OU's approach so much...……..we did MUCH better against Bama than they did blitzing their asses off.
We gave up 16 in the first half, they gave up 31.
Oh, and BOTH of us got a grand total of 1 sack.
Anecdotes are fun

You're not even trying to understand. OU has a completely new defense with a completely new coordinator and they dominated Texas
quote:
Oklahoma allowed just 310 yards of offense against Texas. Linebacker Kenneth Murray was the player of the game, at least on defense, with five tackles, two tackles for loss, and a sack.. Grinch dialed up all kinds of blitzes on third down for nine sacks
Compare that to our strategy vs Ehlinger.

Ok, well you saw what the conservative approach got us last night right? We were losing in the 3rd quarter and hadn't stopped them from scoring tds. When we switched to an aggressive approach and blitz Trask like we should have been doing from jump street, we shut them down and they didn't score again the whole game. If those results aren't obvious to you then you're an idiot. My problem with aranda is why does it take him so long to make adjustments in game and not make changes that obviously needed to be made? He needed to make changes much earlier last night and pressure Trask when it was obvious we couldn't stop them with the weak pass rush bc he was picking us apart.
