Good post, frick these people ridiculing your post, good chance they havent lived long enough to even understand what values are, much less understand the fact that these kids getting high, is most likely a sign that they are trying to escape reality. They are under enormous pressure to perform at an extremely high level on the football field. So it is understandable that they have a want to get high, to relieve some of the pressure. It is at this point that the responsible coach, or administrator impose a stiff penalty, make it clear that this is very serious, rather than a 1 game suspension (slap on the wrist). I have a brother that died from addiction, he was never able to hit bottom, there was always someone there to bail him out, enabling him to continue to destroy himself and his family

Thanks bgsb. Similar family situation, but luckily he did hit bottom. Still a struggle for him to stay right.

Haven't read the whole thread, so maybe this has been clarified... but how is serving in the military the same as playing amateur sports?
I understand having to rid yourself of a screw up in the unit - as that could cost someone's life, but in football?

You got it exactly right....well said!
Your right, its not what LSU stands for... and just cause a few kids get caught smoking legal weed doesnt change what LSU stands for...geeeezz, mellow out man... CLM is a great coach that will do whats best for the players and LSU.. all you frickin fakes that want to roast these guys for a single stupid mistake need take a look at you own selves... are you reall that sinless?? If we win out, nobody will even remember this....

Miles is paid $4m t represent LSU not these "kids" and he had better figure that out quick.
This is on his watch and we are also on probation.
I remember no time in the years I have supported my alma mater, LSU, that we have received so much negative publicity. Even if we win the NC, it will be tainted by Jefferson, Ware, Matthieu and Simon along with Miles and probation.
This is not what LSU should stand for....

i'm not trying to be a dick here, but weed is a safer drug than alcohol.
I also don't believe that marijuana is an addictive drug

they allegedly smoked weed, so they are destined for skid row while pulling LSU along with them. good analogy
I'm very familiar with addiction-afflicted family members and friends as well as playing D-I football, and you are blowing this waaaayyyy out of proportion.
It's easy to blow a lot of smoke when you truly have NO frickING CLUE of how the system works.

quote:Thank you, that is a sensible reply. I just don't think we should confuse support for the players with support for their stupid actions. I am disappointed and am ticked off because they chose to do something stupid that reflects poorly on our team and university. What they have done should not be minimized nor excused but we can only control what we can control and these young players are not something we can control. Let the process work itself out.
it's not that you shouldn't care, you should. However, there are folks in place who get paid to gather the information and take the appropriate action that is best for the program. I have virtually no real information, and I'm not responsible for taking action, so I trust those who are in that position to do the right thing. If they don't then they will be held accountable by the administration. I'm perfectly comfortable with that process and support how they decide to handle it. Any energy I expend being pissed off is wasted energy.

...thank god the whole damn world isn't run by "military officers" ..
.. you're not the only sob who have to make "the hard choice" ... most of you guys can't get thru one sentence without mentioning you are a "military guy" ... the military way not the only damn way ... frankly , its the last resort ... like the directions read on a label : "Use only when needed "

I didn't have a brother die from addiction but I have a family member who has a problem with addiction and can't seem to climb out of it because this person is also being enabled at every mistake made instead of taking responsibility for their actions!!! So YEP I am against the drug thing!!!!

While I think the original poster's opinion is extreme (kicking them off the team), it seems that many of our fans do not understand the concept of team sports.
Decisions made by any player off the field that could alter their ability to contribute on the field affect the entire team...not just that player. If a player breaks team rule (whether fans think it is a stupid rule of not) and get suspended, they are cheating their teammates and showing a lack of respect for the team and the coaches. For a football team, this is a serious problem.
Maybe it is a good sign that many players are publicly showing support for the three guys that broke team rules...they are being good teammates. However, I am hopeful that they are actually upset with these players privately (within the locker room) so that all of our players will understand the selfishness of these types of decisions.

Fair enough, but that does not mean that it isn't addictive and that it isn't harmful.

I know this is a silly question, but anything worth a shite being said in this tread or just someone who is pissed?

This is actually the right position.

Talk about not knowing what the frick you're talking about. Some people smoke weed because they like it just like people that have a glass of wine with dinner. I'm guessing your brother didn't die from an OD of marijuana.
