The AP preseason Top 25 is coming out Aug 19 here’s how the 2018 preseason polll looked

Posted on 8/16/19 at 10:41 am
and how each of those teams finished the season
ETA to add link: Look back at preseason top 25
* Three of the top 10 teams finished unranked.
* Two others finished ranked but not in the top 10 (13 & 17).
* So only 50% - five of the top 10 finished in the top 10.
* Eight teams that were rated from 11 - 25 finished unranked.
* So a total of 11 ranked in the preseason top 25 finished unranked.
* USC is in the receiving votes category in the coaches poll
* If USC is not listed in the AP preseason top 25 it may be the first time EVER - sarcasm. Though it may really be the first time ever.
* Florida made the biggest jump going from 2nd team receiving votes to #7.
* UCF moved up 10 spots starting at 21 and finishing at 11.
* LSU moved up more than any ranked team in the preseason top-25 going from #25 to #6.

Athlon has us beating: SLU, LA Tech, Rice, Mississippi State, Florida, Ole Miss, and Arkansas.
Athlon has your Fighting Tigers finishing 7-5 overall, 4-4 in the SEC.
Belk Bowl?

To make matters more complicated, LSU does not have a proven All-SEC-caliber tailback with the early departure of Derrius Guice to the NFL.

The quagmire that has been LSU’s situation in the pocket for a decade appears to be falling into head coach Ed Orgeron’s lap in 2018. With two-year starter Danny Etling graduated, the Tigers will have a new quarterback and while they don't lack for options with Joe Burrow, Justin McMillan, Myles Brennan and Lowell Narcisse battling for the job, all of the candidates have one thing in common -- little to no collegiate experience.
Expectations are always high when it comes to LSU but what does this season hold for the Bayou Bengals? Athlon asked a few editors and college football contributors to share their realistic win/loss projection for LSU in 2018.
LSU Football: Game-by-Game Predictions for 2018
I went back and forth between 7-5 and 6-6 for LSU.
The Tigers aren’t projected to be a top 25 team by Athlon and most over/under totals hover around seven.
It's crazy to think that a 7-5 projection is optimistic for LSU, but it's possible that this team struggles to reach bowl eligibility.
I'll give LSU two more sure wins: Ole Miss at home and at Arkansas. After that, this team will have to play really well to beat any of the other opponents on the schedule. Interesting times in Baton Rouge.
as we've come to see the past few years, the amount of success LSU has will come down to the offense producing big plays. No matter who takes over at quarterback, I'm not convinced that these Tigers can be all that consistent in the passing game to produce a big jump. The nature of this team says they will play a bunch of close games but don't count on them winning the bulk of those coin flips.
If LSU wins nine games or better again in 2018, Orgeron deserves Coach of the Year considerations. If LSU fans stay supportive and new offensive coordinator Steve Ensminger can lay down the foundation of his offense, this season should be the building block for title aspirations in 2019.

Preseason polls are beyond worthless. They actually do a disservice.

You should add to your observations that 2 (USC and Fla. St.) of the teams ranked in the preseason didn't even make bowl games.

I like preseason polls for the entertainment value, but they really should reset after the 2nd or 3rd week.
I honestly can't think of one reason why they use the current approach other than being lazy.

Also, they suck if we feel we are poorly ranked and love them if we're ranked high.
But as you said, we're in the SECW. We could start dead last in every poll and if we run the table we're in. Winning solves all.

BIG shout out to Winston Cup for picking the win over Georgia in the above linked thread.
"fromm looked like shite in their spring game. their offense is going to struggle. LSU will beat UGA"
Good job. Took some crap and a lot of down votes but you were correct.

It is a continuation from the other thread where you poorly attempt to bring Fat Head O up to close to his level. (Richt)

Funny how last year you claimed pre season polls were worthless
Posted on 8/16/19 at 11:49 am to RogerTheShrubber
I'm reading through it now. I love these posts from last offseason and the self-sworn geniuses that look like total idiots.
I'm getting into the Richt-love / Eaux-hate right now.
this Tiger1988 sure loves him some Mark Richt and hates him some Coach Eaux.
He thinks I am comparing the two in this statement:
"What the frick information you have that remotely comes close to making your point of trying to bring other people down to this bum’s level you fricking POS."
He must have been really sad last Sept 2nd.

Got darn I love my fan-boys. I don't remember claiming that. But I could have done it two weeks ago and probably wouldn't remember it. I love you guys hanging on EVERYTHING I say.
But, even if I did, what in my thread makes you think I am claiming otherwise?

LSU plays its first game in 15 days, and you decided that the best way to get ready for the opener against Georgia Southern was to...reread a 2018 prediction thread?
Posted on 8/16/19 at 11:58 am to VoodooDoctor
Exactly.
This season we're being predicted to do as well as 12-0 by some folks, which means we'll finally topple Bama, and a 2018 thread is the most positive thing he can find to talk about?

It's like Jesus says in the Bible, "Let he who has never had a #hottaek turn freezing cold cast the first stone."

Pretty much are. No one in their right mind thought we would lose 5 last year.
