In 2 games (94 points) against Ole Miss and Mizzou than the 1969 LSU Tigers for an entire season (91 points). Below are the stats of the 1969 season who IMHO was the greatest LSU defense of all time. And the offense averaging 35 points a game was elite too in the days of grind it out on the ground style of football. It’s a real shame they were screwed by the Cotton Bowl selecting ND over LSU who could have been playing for a national championship. 1969 team is right up there with 2003 and 2019 teams in terms of dominance.

Record: 9-1 (7th of 122) (Schedule & Results)
Rank: 10th in the Final AP poll
Conference: SEC
Conference Record: 4-1
Coach: Charles McClendon (9-1)
Points For: 349
Points/G: 34.9 (7th of 122)
Points Against: 91
Opp Pts/G: 9.1 (3rd of 122)
SRS: 20.68 (8th of 122)
SOS: 3.58 (51st of 122)

Our defense sucks. Badly.

But comparing stats to 1969 is just silly. Different game.

Perhaps more impressive is 34 points per game in the days of I-formation/split backs, 3 yards and a cloud of dust.

Stop with this silliness. That '69 LSU team was never ranked higher than 8th. The loss to Ole Miss ended ALL national title talk.

You think? I watched that 1969 team. They were mean, aggressive and would punch any opponent in the mouth (things this team has no clue or will to do) including teams we play against now. Still have 11 men on defense lined up against 11 on offense. They had two of the top LB's in Mike Anderson and George Bevan along with Tommy Casanova in the secondary and others who went on to the NFL. Relatively speaking it is not silly.

There was lots of NFL talent on that 1969 team and they played with a level of toughness that this defense sorely lacks
