Both the Big 12 and SEC announced their plans for the 2020 college football season. Unfortunately, it will mean the cancelation of the much anticipated Texas-LSU matchup in Baton Rouge.

The Big 12 announced they will be going to a 9+1 model, allowing one nonconference matchup for each school. However, the nonconference game must be a home game, ruling out the possibility of Texas traveling to LSU.
Even if the Longhorns were allowed to go on the road, the SEC is not allowing nonconference games. The reigning national champions will be playing a 10 game, conference only schedule this season.

According to Brian Davis of the Austin American-Statesman, athletic director Chris Del Conte said the Texas-LSU matchup will “definitely” be made up some time in the future.

Right now, Texas’ nonconference schedule is booked full until 2027. The Longhorns have future matchups with Arkansas, Alabama, Michigan, and Ohio State. Even in 2027, Texas will be playing the Wolverines and would be doubling up with Power 5 opponents.
It will be until 2034 until Texas has zero nonconference games scheduled.

If the two were to meet in 2027, LSU would be playing both Texas and Oklahoma. The Tigers are scheduled to travel to Norman that year, the first year of a home and home series. Ed Orgeron’s team has a nonconference game scheduled every year until 2033.

Nearly a decade may go in between the two matchups but Texas and LSU will find a way to meet in Baton Rouge. If the second game was going to be anything like the first, another instant classic would have been instore.

UT will string this out for years to come. Quite possible the players for this future game have not even been born yet.

Let’s not pretend that LSU loads up its non-conference schedule

Why are y’all acting like Texas is scared? They have home-homes scheduled with Alabama, Ohio State, Michigan and Georgia in these next few years.... obviously they want the smoke.

UT’s scheduling history says they aren’t afraid. They usually play two P5 non-conference games per year.

Texas got their home game from us. Why will they be in a hurry now to set one in Tiger Stadium?

LSU should nut up and play two power 5 OOC games in a season so we can get the game in sooner. Texas is willing to do that. We did it in 2011. Let's do it again.

Because it will make both of them a huge sum of money.

Next year would be nice b/c UCLA is terrible. They just have some name recognition and the location of that game. We could drop Central Michigan but no chance Texas plays at Arkansas and at LSU in the same season much less in back to back weeks.

Correction....LSU stands to make a lot of money. So sure LSU will push hard for the home game. Texas shoveled in multi millions of dollars For the game in Austin. LSU was paid 1.5 million to travel there. Tell me the Texas motivation for not pushing out the rescheduling of this game if it only means 1.5 million?

LSU didn't cancel, the SEC did and since other conferences are doing the same you have to respect those decisions.
I don't want the game unless we can have 100,000 plus including the texas contingent that make the trip.

Yeah I mean Ehlinger would be the best QB we’d face all year. Almost 500 yards and 5 TDs against us last year.

I’d imagine they would be more ready for a game like that early in the season this year than we would have been. Kind of a role reversal from last year when they were replacing a ton and this year that’s us.

As a fan it would have been fun to see but it’s probably better for our season prospects to not have that on the schedule early on, assuming we play at all.

I don't think UT is being pussies, just the nature of the beast with CFB scheduling.

this mostly just sucks arse for season ticket holders. The best non conference game to be held in TS won't be until 2024 with.....UCLA. But hey next season we get ULM, Mcneese, and central michigan
