Is there any recent example of this happening, someone is arrested on felony charges and the team doesn't find out about it for months?

Ok I am not advocating that he should not have told his coaches, he obviously should have. And the punishment should be worse because he didn't tell them and let them be blindsided by this.
That being said, can you blame him? He knew he was fricked no matter what and would be suspended whether he told them or let them find out. "I assume he was hoping they wouldn't find out" So he was probably hoping they wouldn't find out and maybe it gets plead down and when he finally has to plead guilty it is a misdemeanor with maybe only a couple game suspension.
So while he obviously has a lot of fault heaped onto his shoulders, I can at least understand why he didn't tell anyone. He should be punished more for being stupid and thinking he could hide it!!! What an idiot!
