Apparently you don't watch LSU baseball then. It's very likely he was going to Cooper right after that out anyway because he had lefties coming up. Cooper has also been very reliable the past 3 weeks. JJ loves match ups in case you haven't figured it out yet.

Sorry, but he isn’t an elite closer yet. He’s a freshman MIF/RP with a plus curveball and plus confidence. His fb is 90-91. In two yrs, with a lot of weight training allowing him to gain 3-4mph, and improve his change, he has the potential to be an elite closer.

If the next batter wasn’t RHH, he would not have entered the game. And not going to leave the freshman in after his first pitch gets yanked. His confidence was shaken and that’s his best asset.

Not trying to argue his status as a pitcher, but do you really think going out there to throw 1 pitch, giving up a bomb, and then being take n out preserves confidence as a pitcher?

Obviously, every person is different. Some people are ready to take on the world every outing (Guidry gives off that vibe)

And others get domed up after missing 4 spots

Literally no one here will know how that affects us (hopefully it doesn’t)

It was neutral because putting him in was obviously not very smart

Probably, bc CJJ is an analytics trusting guy, and my hunch is Guidry was told he was facing one batter, the righty, and Cooper was coming in for the LHH. So if Guidry knew the plan matchup wise, which he probably did since he and Cooper were getting hot side by side, then getting pulled after 1 pitch didn’t matter…only facing the righty regardless of number of pitches.

He would have been out of the 8th up 4, so he would likely have come back in, especially after another run.

That makes sense

I think one mistake Johnson made throughout the season was not giving bullpen guys enough of a chance to work out of jams

The moment anyone got into any trouble, they were pulled. Obviously that has some good connotations, but personally I’m not sure that’s LwYs the best thing to do (see Hurd in our regional). I just hope Guidry doesn’t get mind fricked (he’s super strong mentally so I think he’ll be fine) going forward

I was surprised he was brought in with Cooper warm. Cooper is a rubber arm.
Guidry just hung a pitch. He needed that one off the plate or high and tight

I’d bet the first person Jay met with after the game was Guidry. They both know he’ll be back and we’ll need him.

Yes. He has nothing to feel bad about, he hung one pitch it happens. We won the game.

This is a much better outcome than many other possible alternatives if he had chose leaving him out there as a freshman in that situation.

If he gets the out it would have been the 3rd out. That’s why Skenes was pisses to come out. He wanted to finish the inning.

I’d have to believe he was only in to face that batter regardless of the outcome. Cooper was coming in to face the left either way

They guessed and he threw it, simple as that. His strengths are his multiple pitches, accuracy and different speeds. He was well scouted. He's gonna be fine.
