[quote]1. Alabama - T-town sux but Saban has built it into a powerhouse and that legacy will last a while)
2. USC - Hollywood, Rose bowl, so-cal weather, incredible brand
3. Texas - Huge brand, almost unlimited $$ and resources
4. Notre Dame - history, brand, legacy,
5. LSU - only school that can say it's last 3 coaches have all won National Championships.[/quote
1. Alabama -
2. Ohio State
3. LSU -
4. Oklahoma
5. Texas -
Call me a homer, don't care. This list isn't the same year after year. Currently Notre Dame isn't a top 12 job. Georgia is as good as Texas position, Michigan has fallen, barely top 10.
10 years ago Nebraska would be in there. USC top 12 at best. Clemson is a better job than a lot but that can change season to season and I fully expect them to come out of the clouds even if Dabo stays there.

If not top 5 definitely top 10. It just gets me that I understand it has to be a good fit for both the school and the coaching candidate- then why the hell did we hire a coach with very unimpressive credentials? Herman looks like he wouldn’t have worked out either?

Depends on your definition. For me, its up there, but i think the competition in the SEC keeps it from being top 3.
Id have Bama, Ohio st, Texas, and Notre Dame above it

None of the reasons you listed here really demonstrate why a job would be desirable or not. The ones you listed above about LSU are more precise
Top of considerations: 1) admin and donor support 2) facilities 3) recruiting footprint 4) tv contracts (conference)
Then you have things like alumni (ex players), program history (which will likely be better reflected in 1 and 2 above)
Then you move into considerations such as location/weather, “brand” which is vague but basically reflected in the above considerations, school academic prestige
Edit: when looking at the top considerations above, LSU is easily a top 5 program. We spend on coaches, support staff and facilities and arguably the best recruiting footprint in the entire country.
