Agreed completely. In my opinion throwing your shite into a huge pile is not claiming a spot. If you've actually set up your tent then thats different. Spot is yours. If some guys are out there on Friday night having fun then I don't care if you've been tailgating there since 1901, the guys who were out on Friday night have the spot. But if you drive by and toss your shite on the ground in a heap of metal and nylon then you have absolutely no claim to the spot if someone shows up ready to set up and tailgate early.

Someone put me down for 30 feet from the left side of the grounds in the back of AUdubon Hall. Just for games 2, 3 and 7. Since I say it is my spot, I am showing up 3 hrs before kickoff.

I'm not telling any of you clowns where it is, but just beware that if any of you doucebags so much as think of taking MY spot, I GUARAN-DAMN-TEE you your arse will be handed to you come gameday!!!!

while its shitty to do that, its just as shitty to frick with other peoples shite bc you got upset that they "took" a free spot. If you really liked that spot you would have setup there earlier.

I love this thread!
I basically agree with the first come, first served principle for free spots and can't help but laugh at the self-importance exhibited by some. However, I can sort of understand the frustration with those who get to their customary location only to see a pile of stuff there. Back when I used to help set up a tailgate, that left us scratching our heads as to exactly what the other group was claiming. We moved over but still sort of under the oak tree giving the early but non-present birds the prime spot under the tree. when they finally showed up (10:30 or so), they were frustrated because they brought MORE stuff and did not have room for it all. Shockingly, we were able to move a few things around and make room with out having to see whose arse would be handed to whom. I realize there are some spots where this is not an option but more often than not, these things can be worked out.

firt of all we have never harmed anyones stuff, just simply picked it up and moved it..
These folks finally showed up after lunch .. all 6 of them.
We have about 50.
WE went out htere fri at 430 and it was already there. Furthermore, if Im not mistaken 430 is the earliest by campus rules you can set up taligates... so if they were there at 4 or earlier they are the ones breaking rules.
The first time it happened the dude came by himself and picked up his two tents and left at around 12 pm.

Why is everyone worried about a "prime spot"? There should be plenty of room for everyone to tailgate and if you have a large group who pays money then shouldn't they be worried about hanging out with one another and not where the tent is located? I swear some people just look for reasons to be difficult. I am in favor with the early bird gets the worm. Besides if someone goes out Friday and sets up at 4:30 and you are not there how will they know its your spot? Do you really expect them to spend a gameday walking around to see if its "your spot"?

SOme do. But many probably just believe they are SO important that others folks looking for spots should know it is THEIR spot.
