gees, lady its not that big of a deal.
Apparently youve taken someone's spot before and got your arse ate out for it.
Id be pissed too
You seem to be quite presumptive. This has never happened to me.
It is that big of a deal to me that you feel you have the right to be an arse to fellow tailgaters.
Good night!

Yes, I have my own tailgate. I quit asking people to pay about 2 yrs ago because I hate asking people for money. If someone offers to through me some change I will gladly take it. I have been in my spot for 6 yrs now and only twice has someone set up in my location. Lucky for me the people around me told the people that I tailgate and "politely" asked them to move.

Same thing with me and the people around me. "We look out for each other." LOL.

Is it a dick move for them to come setup in our typical location? This occurred once during the 2007 season. I follow the rules and don't setup until 4:30pm and they had their stuff there by lunchtime Friday
Is a very DICK move.. we have 5-6 other people that have tailgates set up beside ours..theyve been there as long as we have.
All it takes is one a-hole to show up and it fricks eveybody elses spot up.
Main reason Im pisssed about it is In the 2 times that is has happened in the 8 plus yrs of taligating in that spot.....these assholes didnt show up till late in the day.,, in one case guy come picked his tent up and left.

I charge 100 bucks a year.
thats for food and kegs.
WHich like I said we have anywhere form 25-30 regulars and on big SEC games wil have 50-60.
SO it adds up financially.

look, if you owned LSU, you could make the rules. you don't, and you can't. get over yourself
It's called etiquette.
If you've never tailgated before (your own group), you shouldn't expect to be able to walk to a prime spot on campus and take it. There are a ton of tailgating groups that tailgate in the same spot for years and have many people who tailgate there.
When we started tailgating, we scoped out a spot and made sure it wasn't being used weekly, and have been there since. We wouldn't have tried to take a place that was already being used.
If you are respectful of others, you won't have a problem. If you play the "first come first serve" card with people who have been there for 10 years, you should expect some conflict.
SFP wants it to be "first come first serve", but it just isn't that simple.

why not?
if you're there first, it's your spot

they still don't own the rights to this spot, and they have just as much of a shot to get it as the n00b

and there should be on conflict. that's the problem

we are always settin up friday at 4 pm.for the big games we just camp out and drink all night long. for the smaller nights we get back out there around 7 am saturday. i dont give a frick who you are or how long you have been tailgating there. if you want to be guaranteed a spot, get there before me. we have never had a problem, but if someone moved my shite after i got there first i would steal every item they left out the following week
or just frick it up with some paint

That's just your opinion. I know you have trouble telling the difference.
In reality, neither party owns the spot. So, it's a question of judgement. Do you give more weight to the guy who put his tent out first, or to the guy who has been tailgating there for 10 years. Personally, I think a guy who has been tailgating there for 10 years outweighs the guy who just shows up earlier on Friday.
Of course none of it matters. The reality is that if you try to plop on someone's spot, and that someone has been there for years with a large group, you are going to get conflict...and for certain, you won't be there the following week because even if the first group doesn't say anything that day, they are going to make sure that they are there first the following week. So, if you are looking for a permanent spot, it doesn't make much sense to take someone else's prime spot.
It's just an issue of etiquette. It's rude to just take a prime spot knowing that someone else tailgates there. And, you aren't going to get what you want in the long run anyway and may end up getting into a fight on gameday which nobody wants. The right thing to do is to scout out a spot first.

it IS first come, first serve
You want to believe that sooooo bad. But, if you tried it, you'd probably get your arse handed to you. And, frankly, if you knowingly are jumping into someone's spot, you are as much of an a-hole as the guys who turn it into a fight.
There are many spots on campus that are "common areas" like the parade ground, fields on Nicholson, etc. I'm talking about the prime locations around campus.

I think I'm going to take Mike Serio's spot for the Vandy game this year...just because its not "his"...

and a simple call to campus security would get my spot right back

maybe, but you'd still be a douchbag for taking someone's spot, and you arse would have been handed to you, and you wouldn't have it the following week.
The right thing to do is be respectful and scout out a spot for yourself.

i have a spot for myself, and we are always set up by 4 pm friday. but people who bitch about their spot being taken are pussies. if you want to make damn sure you get the spot, be the first one there. if someone beats you, you have no one to blame but yourself

GROUP TWO If you dont have any responsibilities on game day other than to show your arse up(which is the majority of people).. then you'll probably tend to side with SFP.
actually you are wrong. I think is horse shite to move someones shite. We put up plenty of money this year on tailgating and we never had a problem with people taking the spot we wanted. we got out there every friday and put our shite out and it was done. If someone would have put a tent in our spot we would have moved over and it been no big deal. No matter how much money anyone drops if you are in a free lot it isn't your spot just bc you have tailgated there every game for the last 20 years.
This isn't a hard concept to grab. Its a freelot you didn't pay for the spot.
