False. Tennessee won a NC will Chavis leading the defense. Right now, it's the offense that I'm concerned with.

I am with you on that... when we go 3 and out and the D stays on the field, DC is not the probelm... Get a few 1st downs on offense and our Defense will be fine...

False. We didn't have the beef up front last year and in 2008. He had good or great defenses at Tennessee. If we have the players, we can win. Look at what he did with the LB's. They were the weakness in 08. Think they were the strength last year right behind the DB's.

Wow...41st!! Kent fricking State kicked our arse in the dept and had almost twice the tackles for loss! Not to mention powerhouses such a Nevada, Tulsa and Florida Int ALL having better stats than LSU.

Well, the Ark game is a good example...
Don't know if you remember, but we actually did a great job of pressuring Ryan Mallet with just our D-Line, we just failed to actually sack him.
But we forced him into bad throws. We were playing aggressive and actually prevented Ark. from doing anything.
In the 2nd half, and this is where I agree with your frustration about Chavis being soft, he decides to go with a 3-man rush on the DLine. Besides staying aggressive, he went soft. Not sure why since we were pressuring Mallet all day with a 4 man front without blitzing, you can't ask for a better defense then that. But for some reason, he went with a 3-man rush, giving Mallet more time to throw. Exact opposite of what we were doing in the first half.

And we held the NC to their forth lowest point total of the season and the No. 1 Defending NC to a point total or 13.
D wasn't our problem and would not prevented us from winning a championship last year. Do you realize that as bad as our offense played last year we were still just a few plays away from being 11-2 or 12-1?

Our defense was way better than it was last year, but realistically it could only get better. The offense will be better this year, because it can only get better. (At least we hope)
For those who didn't read my other post, I know Chavis was DC of the UT NC team in '98. But I also listed the NFL players on that team and how the scores were 33-34 and 21-24 in OT. The only coach that is still in the SEC from back then is Steve Spurrier and he's with a different team. This is a different SEC with aggresive defenses that play to win the game. This defense plays not to lose the game.
