Owned that I exaggerated? Yes. 2009 defense was still better than 2007, which was my point. Period.
Again, please explain how the 2009 defense was "BETTER"? As I've show, the 2007 defense was BETTER in nearly EVERY statistical category, directly contradicting your argument. Give it up, you were talking out of your arse and got proven wrong. PERIOD.

We sucked before he got here. The last good defense we had was under Bo.

The only thing this statement suggests is that 2008 was a bad defensive year. Pretty sure that's a universal opinion...

Point is, he vastly improved the number of points we gave up while working with a winded defense on damn near every snap in his first year. There is absolutely no reason to expect anything other than what we saw last year or better. And as stated... we played well enough on D to win every game last year.

3 points per game difference = better. You realize that games are decided by who scores the most points?

defense seemed to do very well against meyer and saban last year...

if peterson doesnt get a cramp we win against bama.

gotta have an offense though.

First, I think Chavis is a good DC and I do think we can win a NC with him here. But, his defense needs to be more aggressive. Rushing the QB was not a problem last year, but sacking the QB was.

But defense is not where our major problems are at. Our offense is a complete train-wreck and if we don't start playing some kind of power rushing offense that gets first downs and keeps the defense rested, we won't be winning anything soon.

Oh, and for the record, I could care less about being proven wrong on a sports message board or real life, that is part of learning. I knew we allowed less points in '09 but thought (without consulting the stats like others did) the yardage stats backed that up as well. They didn't, no big deal. But then again, I don't feel like more of a man by typing OWNED at someone.

But you will have a hard time convincing me or any rational person that a D that allows more points ('07) with a much better offense backing them up was better than a D that allowed 3 less points per game.

Going an entire year without trying to let anyone replace the horribleness that is Pep Levingston bodes well for Chavis' future personnel decisions.

Not much a coach can do as far as that is concerned. Fact is that we just weren't that good along the line last year.

Disagree. I think nearly everyone on this board would state that the 2007 LSU defense was better than the 2009 version. We were the #3 total defense that year. 2007 was MUCH, MUCH better in every other statistical category. LSU played 2 triple overtime games that year that skewed the points per game by the 3 ppg that you are making a big deal over.

I'm not a huge Chavis fan, but he is the least of our problems.
Fixing our suckass offense is.

The most important stat in terms of determining wins is Turnover Margin - not PPG.

Correct, PPG is also skewed by special teams TDs, defensive TDs, and OT games.

No DC is ever good enough for LSU fans. People accused Pelini of driving our 'fast' and 'aggressive' D into the ground when really, we would pay to get that D back today. Pelini then proceeded to Nebraska and built a great D there as well.

False. Defense wins ballgames, but only if the offense can put up some points.

So turnovers and field position mean nothing to you, I assume? Saying the '09 defense is better than '07 is downright laughable.

Pelini was really awesome against Kentucky 2007, Arkansas 2007, UT in 2005 etc. Really awesome.

How about you go coach the defense and let's see who's soft!

we had our entire secondary out with injury half way through the game + Dorsey. Yes, we sucked, but the offense should have put that game away well before that.

forced 2 turnovers in the 1st half that our O didn't capitalize on and then shite the bed the entire 2nd half.

Our defense was extremely overrated in 2007. I miss the D we had from 2002-VT 2007.
