I know many will say Tyrann Mathieu but TM7 did not break any SEC records as a sophomore. JaMarr broke the SEC single season TD and Yards record while playing with another record breaking WR right next to him. Lots of people to choose from here but I think JaMarr has a strong case.

It was either him Fournette or Mathieu.

People always forget that Marshall was the leading TD catcher on the team before the injury. Imagine if he wouldn’t have gotten hurt against fricking Vanderbilt.

Fournette running through defenses the way he did with no passing game is just mind blowing, looking back.

That being said, Mathieu was also a one man wrecking crew. The things he did, even more mind blowing

1. TM7
2. LF
3. JC

That’s crazy to think about, cause Chase had arguably the best single season in CFB history for a WR.

All are the correct answer

Did Chase get invited to the Heisman ceremony? Honey Badger wants to know the answer.

Chase was unbelievable and it's hard to compare since they play completely different positions. He looks like he is out there just casually playing pitch and catch the way he makes it so easy looking against great defenders.

But Mathieu altered games completely from a position where it's typically hard to do so. He did it numerous times. Then he was a phenomenal punt returner and altered the Arkansas game and the SEC title game with returns for TDs.

He broke his own LSU record for forced fumbles. He was the National Defensive Player of the Year, the SEC Defensive Player of the Year and became the first defensive back to be invited to the Heisman Ceremony in 14 years (and was the 1st Heisman finalist from LSU in 30+ years). Tough to beat that. But again, completely different positions for the two. They both were about as dominant as a player could be.

In all fairness the Heisman race this season was probably better than 2011.

As good as Chase and Fournette were, it wasn’t the same impact as Tyrann. Those two could easily influence games on offense because they touched the ball so frequently. I’m taking nothing away from them because they were incredible. Hell, Fournette ran against 11 men boxes basically. For me it’s Tyrann, Fournette, Chase in that order.

TM7 still

LSU went 13-1 that year and without him they lose 4 games at least.

As great as chase was this year I still believe LSU would’ve been really really good without him

TM7s great season was the sole reason LSU played in the natty that year

Fact of the matter is it should have been Burrow, Chase, Jefferson, and young at the ceremony. The media needed to create hype for other players though.

Mathieu’s performance on the field was unprecedented. There were no records to break.

I dont think youre giving Eric Reid, Morris Claiborne, Sam Montgomery, Keke Mingo and a host of others enough credit. TM7 was def the team MVP but he was not Cam on Auburn 2010 carrying the whole team by himself.

Honey Badger was a bigger impact, IMO. When you consider he played defenses and teams actively avoided him but he still somehow came into making big plays was amazing. In fact, when LSU needed a game changing momentum swing he was always the one doing it. Returning a punt, creating a fumble, INT. He is one of the biggest playmaking machines I've ever seen at LSU in clutch moments. The only time he came up short making a BIG play was in the NC game against Bama. If you watched the games before that LSU was falling behind in those games but when TM7 would make a big play like a punt return the team moved into an unstoppable gear. They only moved what TM7 dictated. That's a true impact player I don't think I'll ever see again.

Though, maybe you could argue Burrow was this time of impact player too but it wasn't his sophomore year.
