"I'm not going to ever take my helmet off during or after a game again," Hebert said.

I'm sorry ... trying to be light before tomorrow ... I have this visual image of T-Bob walking around campus with his helmet on.

Wonder what the fumbling punishment equivalent would be for the helmet.
You fumble, you run a mile.
You fumble, you carry the ball all day.

You throw your helmet, ....?
Go.

Saban (sorry) made Ally Broussard carry a ball for a freaking week if I remember right after his first fumble.

To answer your question, hm, wear it 24/7? Maybe just like not ON your head but "kinda" on like they do at times on the sideline ... I mean, he's gotta see and eat and study ...

You have to throw it 1,000 times after every practice.

The fact that anyone is upset with him for throwing his helmet is stupid

Is there a punishment for a qb rating of 15?

Miles bashing his head against the wall on this one. I'm expecting Lee go get the majority of the snaps, but on the other hand I'm not going to be surprised if Jefferson just stays out there, even if we are down.

Running the option to the short side of the field.

I get it about the helmet, but in the larger sense, if he doesn't snap that ball, we would have been much worse off.

I think this kid is a better player than people give him credit for, and of course, I expect others on here to tear into me for this comment..

I'm not complaining about anything ... just thought his quote was funny and that it could help to lighten the mood in this place. I was wrong I guess.

I credit T-Bob with that win ... for snapping that ball!

I think it's funny, too. I had the same mental image you did.

The helmet toss penalty is rarely called at the end of games, however, because the spirit of the rule is to stop players from showing off after making a big play. Before the rule, players would frequently take their helmet off after a big tackle to showcase themselves.

"The spirit of the rule was to stop players from calling attention to themselves," Bloom said. "When Hebert threw his helmet, he'd thought he'd lost the game. The penalty is usually not called in those situations."

SEC coordinator of officals Rogers Redding made this same point on Tim Brando's national radio show Monday.

"We always have to interpret why (a helmet is thrown)," Redding said. "We always allow for the immediate burst of emotion. To penalize that at the end of the game is a very technical interpretation of the rule. It would be irresponsible to penalize either team because of that."

I am glad to know there is a provision for sanity in the application of the rule.

I am all for penalizing a hot-dog showoff but in the situation at the end of the UT game it would have been a mockery of all that is sane to even think of imposing a penalty there.

+1

FWIW, I threw my LSU hat on my coffee table at the exact same time...it's a natural reflex.

I struck my recliner hurting my hand at the same time tbob was launching his helimet. Then I injured my back jumping over the coach when Ridley punched it in.
