Once a year is ok.

White is classic and our brand. The purple stripes on the sleeves and pants is plenty.

I love the white jerseys. Purple is fine as a change of pace. So I like it just like it is.

I think everyone likes the purple. It's the gold people have issue with. I like our colors and uniform, but the gold just isn't a very attractive color.

The gold used is the appropriate color to the purple, see e.g.,

Color combos for purple

The color scheme used is part of the iconic branding that is instantly recognizable and distinguishes the LSU uniform from, say, UW, which has nowhere near the iconic status of LSU. Just look at the ESPN ad for WatchESPN. It features the white, purple, and "unattractive" gold, precisely because it an iconic uniform. The gold is just fine. It's a football uniform, not a ball gown.

And,the purple jersey is alright and we use it about the appropriate number of times per year. But we should never get away from the"unattractive" gold helmets. I didn't mind the white helmet this year as a once a year sort of thing, but we should limit its use to once a year.

IMO, purple jerseys are an order of magnitude better than the whites.

The white/purple/white we wore for USC should be used more often, IMO.

Yup. Love that color combo.

I don't like them. More power to you if you do, but to me they'll always be associated with Hallman, who was the coach when I became a fan. The purple jerseys and the bad teams that played in them are my first memories as a Tiger.

And I still think something about them makes us play worse.

Not sure why we can't just wear white at away games and purple at home. Why wouldn't everyone be happy with this? Wearing white at home is as silly as the #18 tradition.

It's because it looks blue on TV, if it looked purple they probably wouldn't care.

I agree with you. This year's balance is good. Wear Purple 3 or 4 times, once with White helmets. Maybe go with all White (like the last Pro Combats) or Gold jerseys with the White helmets, but again, just once a year.

This is basic branding. You have to stick with something for it to become known. I know Oregon has become known for insane variety, but they are really the only ones that have been able to get that to stick. A lot of other teams may generate some interest, but they also risk diluting their brands. Of course, some of the teams that also mix and match do it because they never had a brand, and are going the variety route to get some eyeballs and sell some jerseys.

The White jerseys are the main LSU brand, but the use of Purple and the occasional Alternate is a great way to still generate a little variety and contrast. This formulae works. I hope they stick with it.

I understand wearing white for day games early in the year because of the heat but I wish the purple would be used more. To me the purples are classic.

Traditions often define a team's brand. The white jerseys at home, the field markings at 5 yards, the old-school goal posts. LSU has a great brand, and the white jerseys at home are an integral part of that brand. It gets a lot of PR and comment every year. Don't mess with success. The fight to get the right to wear white at home is a part of the LSU lore. Thanks to Jerry DiNardo. That may be the best part of his legacy to LSU (although leaving Saban with a boat load of talent was pretty important too).

So, no, I would not be happy with purple as the regular home jersey. It just isn't LSU otherwise.

I was at LSU from 93-97, so I caught the end of the Hallman era and DiNardo's banishment of Purple. At that time, I would have agreed with you. However, look at how far the program has come since then. Time to leave that thinking in the past. Hallman and DiNardo are ancient history, and the Purple jersey has its roots well before they were around. There shouldn't be any concern about wearing them anymore.

I agree the stigma is gone from the purple, but the stigma predates the Hallman era. As far back as the McClendon era, purple jerseys were considered bad luck. No one ever wanted to see the Tigers in the purple jerseys back in the 1970s. The purple jersey aversion really wasn't about Hallman. It was the traditional view before he arrived.

But for Jerry's hire and refusal to fire Tepper, he probably would have been LSU's coach for at least several more years. He actually had some pretty good success until Tepper. He did "bring back the magic" until the Tepper fiasco. He was a pretty good recruiter who revived LSU recruiting from the dumpster fire it had become. His success gets lost in the overwhelming failure of the Tepper hire.
