The word "cock" is on national TV every time South Carolina plays a game. It makes me giggle.

"GEAUX to Hell Ole Miss" is that really any better? Back in the day, I bet not.

LSU wasn't on national TV every week.

During my tenure, we used to have chants that had a-hole and arse in them. They banned Tiger Rag for one of them.

When Florida State came to Tiger Stadium, the student section chanted "homosexual" along with the War Chant each time it got played.

It's going to happen. How does the Administration handle this? Do they just turn a blind eye as this stuff booms across CBS and ESPN? It does seem like the mics have been moved some. Is that good enough?

It is all about context with some words.

This reminds me of a USCe game in 2003 in Columbia.

The LSU section (including many, many "old farts") added "suckers" to one of their cheers. For those that haven't been, they do a game-cocks stadium chant like we do geaux-tigers (one side says one, other side says the other).

Yes it's an opinion. It's mine and most of the non-student population of Tiger Stadium. The "adults" on here that think it's funny obviously have some type of personality disorder or brain dysfunction.

I disagree. I'm 42 and most of the "adults" I know love the student section and their antics. The people I know went to LSU and sat in that same student section. We drank a little too much and maybe had a little too much fun.

To me, it needs to be managed with an adult twist, but allow the students to be 18-22. There's plenty of time to be an old stick-in-the-mud later.

I imagine it's difficult to manage it. LSU does a pretty good job IMO. They could really go Gestapo on the students and they don't. It's closer to free reign than crackdown.

Few years back, I lived on Nassau Dr., and was trying to enter my address on some online form that apparently had some software intended to keep people from typing obscenities for some reason, and every time I spelled the street name, when I typed the "A-S-S" a pop-up window kept appearing and saying "Please refrain from using the word "arse"...it was hilarious; I literally was not allowed to order whatever it was b/c I lived on a 'nasty' street....

Yeah, I think that half a stadium yelling "cocks" is just BEGGING for someone to add "suckers"!

So we'll have to drop TGBFTL and move to loud, piped-in music? Maybe the administration will break up the student section into parts? This has the real potential of not ending well. When I was 18-22 and a student at LSU, I would've been with you. In the grown-up world, there is image and brand to manage. This is not a conspiracy to squash you by the man. This is an attempt to not have words like dick, bitch, arse, cock, etc. resounding from the student section of LSU on national TV. That's all.

That's not what I'm saying at all. What I'm saying is the real way to prevent these things from gaining traction is to stop cracking down in the first place. If you let the students chant whatever kind of retarded B.S. they want and don't an the songs they chant it to, they'll probably get bored with it and stop chanting it on their own. The only reason this stuff gets traction is because it gives the students the opportunity to "stick it to the man". You can't "stick it to the man" if "the man" doesn't give a shite. If you ignore it and never ban anything, it will go away. Also, just get the older fans to sing along to the correct words and you won't have this problem either.

I'm just glad the twenty students at the bottom of the section for LSU basketball games didn't yell STTDB...that would have been a new level of awkward.

I see. So when we listened to the Student Section shrieking "a-hole! a-hole!" for several seasons at every home game and every time we scored a touchdown when TGBFTL attempted to play 'Tiger Rag; - a DECADES old tradition at LSU - did they "get bored and stop" then ?????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????

The only problem I have with the student section is how many leave early. I was one of the few students who stayed to the end of every game and was annoyed by how many left. Especially during the Miss St game.

freedom of speech

Atom-Z, So you never have to speak ignorantly again about our First Amendment rights.

Here's a lesson to learn what our First Amendment a/k/a Freedom of Speech does not cover. Please see the second to last topic.

FREEDOM OF SPEECH DOES NOT INCLUDE THE RIGHT:

To incite actions that would harm others (e.g. “[S]hout[ing] ‘fire’ in a crowded theater.”).
Schenck v. United States, 249 U.S. 47 (1919).

To make or distribute obscene materials.
Roth v. United States, 354 U.S. 476 (1957).

To burn draft cards as an anti-war protest.
United States v. O’Brien, 391 U.S. 367 (1968).

To permit students to print articles in a school newspaper over the objections of the school administration. Hazelwood School District v. Kuhlmeier, 484 U.S. 260 (1988).

----------> Of students to make an obscene speech at a school-sponsored event. Bethel School District #43 v. Fraser, 478 U.S. 675 (1986).

Of students to advocate illegal drug use at a school-sponsored event. Morse v. Frederick, __ U.S. __ (2007).

I do believe that LSU has the best student section in college football. I love playing you in Baton Rouge. Your fans are the best tailgaters too. Most are very friendly. Unlike the Viles and Gaytors. I have learned to respect Coach Miles and enjoy his comments. He takes up for his players and has them prepared.
