I guess we could argue about what "shutting them down" means but 3 earned runs in 7 innings does not fit the definition IMO. Yea, he pitched great but he did not "shut them down".

Really?

He gave up only 6 hits, 3 ER, with a 2.77 ERA. Pretty good against that lineup.

I agree. But he did not "shut them down".

I guess shutting them down is a subjective description.

Numbers really don't do that game justice, he was getting hit pretty hard

SO he either "shut them down", was decent, or was getting hit hard.

I can see why we get so many opinions on the rant.

He pitched well enough to win. Giving him 3 hits in support is the real tragedy.

This is why I don't buy that Stony Brook really outclassed us on the field. (in game 2)

If we hit .250 in that game we probably win and then I wouldn't have to hear how dominating SB was.

It was my understanding that there would be no math, but how can a pitcher allow 3 ER in 7 innings and have an ERA of 2.77?

Because 7/3 + .44 = 2.77?

No doubt. He pitched a good game, but he did not "shut them down".

LINK

Did I read the box score wrong?

ETA: That must be his ERA for the season. Why would they report that in a single game's boxscore?

Its actually earned runs (3) multiplied by 9 divided by innings pitched (7)

9 X 3= 27

27/ 7= 3.86 era

Eta: TRTE 2.77 is his era for the year
