The people we interviewed were 1) larry scott from south florida-word is he bombed his interview. Young guy who was high school coach in florida, not much college experience. 2) tim salem-currently special teams n TE at central florida-has been an OC most of his career n more of a QB coach. 3) mike schultz-former TCU n Illinois OC-texas recruiting ties as well as OC experience. 4) randy butler-DE at troy, coached TE at southern miss most of his career. 5) jack peavet-OL texas n n m commerce-texas ties n has been head coach twice. 6) stephen field-RB at Hampton-most of his career as high school coach in florida n time as a GA at miami

compared to some of those, this isn't terrible, but it's amazing this is the list Miles puts together

Not familiar with him Books, but that bio looks more like what I was hoping for. A young up and comer with roots in Texas and originally from New Orleans.

Good find.

It doesn't matter to some if it's accurate. It only matters that it affords them a bitching and whining vehicle.

I didnt find it, but it would have made more sense than a Tubs retread. Hire like that would have made too much sense after getting Wilson on Gonzo on staff. Just when you think he's on the right track he pulls something like keeping Stud and Crowton or hiring an unemployed TE coach.

i hope the rivals/scout experts can list the commits he got. i'm curious to see where he recruited for AU

They didn't have any info prior to 2006 but in 2006 he landed:

4-star Raven Gray
4-star Craig Stevens
3-star Zac Etheridge

2007 he pulled:

3-star Kyle Coulahan
4-star Enrique Davis
4-star Carlton Johnson
3-star Tim Lamb
3-star Mike Slade
3-star Brent Slusher
4-star Bailey Woods

(almost all these guys were from Florida)

2008:

Raven Gray recommitted
3-star Vance Smith

TE coach isn't very important in the grand scheme of things, but any talk of this guy being QB coach or stealth offensive coordinator just leaves me speechless.

Look at it this way, Gonzo will be the stealth OC Ensminger will be the stealth QB coach, and Crowton will also be working parts of that. I know there's a risk of "too many chefs", but at the same time, Ensminger was a pretty good QB for LSU, and has lots of experience working with QBs. I'm hoping that it's just what we need.

Steve did help develop Eric Zire at Georgia into a good QB. But I would say Al Borges had more to do with Jason Cambell than Ensminger ever did.

He was no where last year. He and Tuberville were really tight and he was suppose to go with Tuberville wherever he went. Alot of the Auburn Tuberville staff was still together and all just waiting for Tubby to get hired somewhere. I guess with him being hired at TT he couldnt clean house there and bring his entire staff with him. Maybe TT(Texas Tech) made that clear when they hired him? Not really sure.

Just realized TT stood for Texas Tech and Tommy Tuberville. LOL

someone want to explan how this is a good hire?

He's had to go to high school twice, as a position coach. Who is the QB he developed? Campbell?

What the hell happened in 1998? Offensive coordinator at Clemson, then unemployed for a year and then a high school coach from 2000-2003?

He was on Tommy West's staff that all got replaced by Tommy Bowden's leap from Tulane to Clemson. Word on Steve was he wanted to slow down a bit anyway and watch his kids play ball more often.

He's not worth a crap...if you think Crowtons bad, you haven't seen anything yet...this guy is one of the ones that helped Tubberville get run off at Auburn...BAD DECISION...

Thanks. It's no big deal to get canned, it happens to every coach at some point. I just couldn't figure why he basically took the next five years off from being a college coach.

If it was to be closer to family, nothing wrong with that.
