re: Statisticians: What is the % that calling TO with 20 seconds would've affected

Would you rather a 5% chance or a 0% chance. Pretty simple.
We have the only coach in the country dumb enough to not call a timeout there and instead focus on setting up the FG block. Something he could have done during the timeout in the first place.
Then he calls one with 6 seconds left instead of making Ole Miss call one. I'm sorry but Les is an idiot.

Going 45 yards in 20 something seconds is not absurd

It's maddening. He's a good if not great coach 99% of the time and then he has a brain fart like this. He's not going to figure it out or he would have by now. He just needs to turn all football operations over to the clueful and just recruit and stand on the sidelines, chew grass and look purty.

I bet Kentucky wished they would have called time out with 6 sec left in 2002. Point being anything can happen

Motion: To "bench" Miles on all Saturdays for fumbling yet another extremely easy call.

North Carolina went 50 yards in 13 seconds at the end of the game against Miami Thursday Night.

Let me ask you this:
Why NOT call the timeout with 30 seconds left?
Letting it run down to 6 seconds before calling it is basically conceding defeat.

Icing the kicker is all just so much bullshite, anyway. It seldom works.

We converted a third and twenty three at Georgia. What was the percentage on that? What was the blue grass miracle percentage? I know one percentage. Les is a 100% tard.

you have to think what the % was with the last time management meltdown at ole miss... got the onside kick and the deep ball to be in fg range... thats harder to do then getting into fg range with 20 sec.
atleast give them a chance to win
atleast give them a chance to win

The difference is exponential. 20 seconds is 3 pass attempts, a spike, and a field goal attempt. It would make for a long shot, but it would be a shot. It bumps LSU's chances up from .1% to probably around 20%.
No.
You aren't getting 4 productive plays. That is ridiculous.

Yep, there's no dip in the FG% of kickers who have been "iced". Might as well stick him with a voodoo doll.

Based on the events of the night it was probably zero.
Our QB had already thrown three home run shots into nice defensive coverage 4 times. Three ended in an interception and there should have been one more.
It is hilarious how Miles is so critiqued for such stupid shite. LSU fans will never be happy. So they planned to ice the kicker and he changed his mind too late to try another incredible long shot. I mean our fans need to get over it. Half of these so called time management issues are completely over blown or misplaced. This stuff also happens all the time in football even from big time coaches. It is fun to pile on Miles because he is LSU's coach which has ridiculously critical fans and the fact Miles has an actual personality unlike the rest of the robots in coaching.
I mean I understand being critical of coaching, but it looked a lot more like our defense isn't that good and our senior QB made incredibly costly decisions in an SEC road game.

Why did LSU call a timeout with 6 seconds left?

You aren't seriously trying to defend the non-TO call, are you?

It's sad that he gets defended for such an obvious and simple call that any high school kid knows to make.
But hey, let's not forget the punishing of hill for his first fumble

No I am just saying don't act like it is what lost the fricking game.
I also don't think it deserves a fricking lynch mob from our fans.

Low probability that the outcome would change. I'm 100% sure not calling a timeout in that situation is inexcusable.

quote:
Miles said in his Lunch with Les presser today that the coaches were telling him to call the timeout but that he preferred the option of trying to ice the kicker and trying to block the kick.
Q. Late in the game, you talked about the seconds ticking away. Are there other coaches in the headset saying, hey, we need to take a time-out?
COACH MILES: Yeah, we went through the staff pretty much and we talked about the different strategies. It was me that came off the strategy late to call the time out. I said, no, I don't want that, and then I only had six seconds left, so that was -- did I like the idea of the ice? Yes, I did, and I bought into that for some amount of time. The problem with it is you really have him in the position that you want him, he just was blocked. Your football team had just blocked him, so that when I came off of ice as a likelihood, I wish I had all my 20 seconds back. That was the issue.
My god almighty. How can you read that and come to any conclusion other than: our coach is kind of dumb. I'm sorry, it's just plain stupidity. The decision was stupid, the post-hoc rationale for the decision was even more stupid, and the way in which that stupid rationale was expressed is nearly incomprehensible.
The question that really haunts me is this: If Miles can't make the right decision with respect to straightforward and obvious issues, how can he make the right decisions with respect to the myriad more commplex, nuanced issues that he faces on a daily basis? It's really hard to have faith in a head coach who demonstrates this level of incompetency on basic, easy propositions. I'm not being mean, it's just frustrating.
