I think it's Gilbert/Hess or Hess/Gilbert for Friday/Saturday. For Sunday/Tuesday/Wednesday Peterson, Labas, Fontenot, and Bush will rotate, until someone separates himself, with Bush getting the nod against lefty heavy lineups.

CPM said in an interview "you pitch your best on Fridays". He was referring to Hess in said interview. Hess will start this year

Stinks Walker is missing so much time.

I just wonder about Hess and consecutive innings as a starter. He is so dominant with 1-2 innings out of the closer role. Not sure if him being such a power arm can maintain that success for 7 innings a game or so.

Know who else could have been good in the closer role? Alex Lange. I don't get the line of thinking that Hess in the pen would be more beneficial than him as a starter.

Somewhat fair point but it seems like Lange was shaky early on and could bounce back. He still had great command and stamina.

Hopefully Hess will too. Just unknown.

Much rather have him be dominant for 6-7 innings than 1-2 innings.

Of course. That’s a no brainer.

I’m sure there’s stories of dominant closers being good starters and bad. We just have to see how he is as a starter.

Hess was tried in starting roles last year. He usually petered out after two to four innings. He might mature out of that, but that is the reason so many are skeptical of him as a starter.

CPM is not a dummy. He'll try Hess out as a starter (which will keep a recruiting promise) and if he does well all is good. If not, he'll move him to a bullpen role.

PM raved about Sanders at the end of fall practice. Said he improved more than anyone else and was really hitting his spots.

When does "spring" practice begin? I'll be out there! LSU baseball is my #1

The question will be how short is the leash? Hess isn't going to be perfect every outing. He may not look great in his first couple of starts. How long will PM stick with it when it goes south?

I think if no one sends him wild thing glasses he’ll be fine...

That will depend solely on if CPM feels there is a #4 guy waiting that can win them games. I think Hess will be fine. We should be able to give some decent run support this year. The bats will get us a regional I think. Anything past a regional this season is a bonus this season I think.

Que up the fire CPM threads now.

Outfielder Zach Watson (No. 23) and right-hander Zack Hess (No. 44) are only sophomores, but both are eligible to be selected in the 2018 draft. Junior outfielder Antoine Duplantis (No. 72) rounded out LSU's representation on the list.

Now is a great time to go back and bump the threads of people who thought starting him that first weekend was dumb...

Also a good time to point out that Matt Moscona wanted Watson benched midway through the season just so Romero could get some ABs at DH sending Beau J. back to LF.

I think baseball has the highest percent of clueless fans in LSU fan base. No doubt, football has more, but also has a bigger following.

Baseball is full of hindsight know it alls.

Even still, I cant wait till baseball season. Its my favorite LSU sports season.

Is walker definitely out for the entire season? I thought it was like a 6-8 month recovery time... guess I’m wrong. When is the earliest he could come back?

The first scrimmage of spring 2017 was on Jan. 17. Next spring should be near the same date. Micah Gibbs should post the date and time on his twitter page in January.

Caleb Gilbert I'm sure will get be in the rotation.

Hoping Gilbert can have a solid year.
Out of all the star athletes on campus, he's definitely one of the most down to earth and genuinely nice guys.

Plus the dude is majoring in engineering. Which I just don't see how that's possible with having to play 4 nights a week in the Spring.
