it is, especially on the rant, it'll be easier to weed them out after the first couple weeks of baseball season, some idiot will start a thread bashing the coach or the team, and talking about how we shouldn't be losing a game to "joe blow"

Coleman will go to the bullpen for the rest of the season, but Mainieri said he will get the opening night start because as a senior he has earned it. Plus, Mainieri said he wants an experienced pitcher to pitch the first game at the new Box.

I just don't get this. How does he NOT become a starter?

do you not think he was best out of the bullpen last season? I would much rather have Coleman pitch in possibly all 3 games in a series as a reliever or at least 2 instead of only 1 start every week.

He is much more valuable as a reliever than a starter.

I agree...assuming we can get quality starts elsewhere.

If any freshman works his way into the lineup it will be Zeigler. No way he is not hitting in the lineup everyday by conference.

we have depth in pitching this season. Very much improved.

With the new coach Grewe, our pitchers have gained a couple MPHS instead of lose them like they used to.

CF Leon Landry
SS DJ LeMahieu
C Micah Gibbs
DH Blake Dean
1B Matt Gaudet
3B Derek Helenihi
RF Mikie Mahtook
LF Jared Mitchell
2B Ryan Schimpf

imo Ochinko will alternate with gibbs at c and/or both will alternate with gaudet at 1B

when ochinko is in i think hell bat around 6-8

I saw Mahtook at fall practice, hes good

Coleman is a weapon Mainieri will make sure he gets the most out of each SEC series. Probably the #1 reason I can't see the Tigers getting swept in a weekend series. You might beat him in relief one night, yet highly unlikely you beat him twice in one weekend.

I agree, coleman slacked in his first two season (imo) because of the lack of coaching (Mainieri and Rooney didn't have enough time his second year)

but coleman has his windup figured out and he will dominate in short play, 1-2 maybe even 3 innings (at most, in extreme situations), opponents will never be able to figure out that slider in that little of time

Schimpf needs to move up in the lineup. I know he hit good out of the 9 hole, but he is arguably our 2nd best hitter in the lineup after Dean.

id like to see him the 3 or 4 hole. Maybe 2 slot depending who leads off.

nah gibbs is next best hitter after dean, but I see it as schimpf hitting in the bottom half of the order, he has speed and obp in front of him, same for gibbs (who really impressed the scouts at fall practice, im nosy, overheard them, he was insane at the plate at the p&g worlds series) and Dean who will probably bat over or very near .400 this year, i think gibbs will be above .375 (if not .400 too, just not as likely yet, just much less hr then dean)

gaudet is a different story, rethinking it, i may move him to 7th (i think i have him at 6th, on my line up) the guy has as much power as clark did, he just has to be consistent

remains to be seen. Schimpf had a pretty good summer as well from what I read.

gaudet still has to beat out ochinko

yeah you're right, he did, either way we will have an amazing year and I can't wait for it to start

we'll have one of the best offenses in the nation without a doubt, pitching is still a concern to me, but I'm not as worried about it with Grewe coaching the pitchers

ochinko is a good hitter, he has improved every year but gaudet has more power, and in my opinion, he'll beat out ochinko at 1st

I am probably very wrong, because I do remember Mainieri saying that ochinko and gibbs will probably alternate on 1st and behind the plate

Schimpf definately has to hit close to if not at the top of the lineup. He has developed into a really solid hitter and has decent speed. After Dean, I feel he is right there with Gibbs and DJ as reliable hitters.

I would be comfortable with him as the #1 batter in the lineup...
