In current issue...Given that freshman forward Ben Simmons does not possess anything resembling a credible jump shot, he should spend an extra year at LSU developing precisely that. Otherwise, his NBA initiation may be quite painful.

or he could work on his jump shot in the pros.

LeBron was a very inconsistent/poor outside shooter when he entered the league, too.

This writer is out of his mind.

Would be nice but what will he learn at LSU that he can't learn getting paid millions and not having to go to classes.

What % of guys jumping from NCAA to NBA don't experience a painful initiation?

Simmons will have millions and millions of things that will ease the pain while he develops a J.

The quote was from a "from the readers" letter that is in SI, not a SI writer.

Would be nice, but you Geaux to college to better yourself. When he will be the first pick in the draft, how can you get any better?

Does anyone recall how pedestrian Anthony Davis' offensive game was while he played at Kentucky?

Davis had no mid-range game whatsoever as a freshman in college and now has one of the most consistent mid-range shots of any power forward in the NBA. Hell, he can even make three-pointers from time-to-time.

There are tons and tons and tons of guys that did not have a jump shot year 1 or 2 in the NBA and developed one.

You go to the NBA and get the best training staff, the best coaches, the best nutrition, etc. You have the money to pay for private workouts and shooting coaches and all that.

It still amazes me that a kid as good as Ben Simmons can't shoot.

It is really mind boggling.

Same. Are his hands super big?

Like, hasn't he been shooting a basketball his whole life? He's like a giant Rondo.

that's what i'm saying.

what was he doing before and after practices as a kid? throwing bounces passes to a wall?

i mean, he seems like a good kid and is way more talented than i will ever be, but this really is something that bothers me.

In fact most NBA teams would rather that kind of stuff be worked on under their supervision.

Yea amazes me too how worse Blake griffin was as well. Simmons is light years ahead of blakes shot in college. Plus does every aspect of the game better. Now Blake knocks down mid range in his sleep. Simmons is 19. Relax.

Usually the first pick in the NBA draft can at least be a starter on the team that drafts him. Can anyone really see Simmons being a starter on a NBA by next year?

Surely he has been working on his shooting for years now, what makes people think he is suddenly going to be able to shoot the ball? Lebron was a big physical specimen who could shoot a little bit. Simmons is not a big physical dude and can't shoot at all what so ever.

I just don't see how his game fits into the NBA without a jump shot. He does have a lot of unique abilities that would be unstoppable with an accurate jump shot, but with out a jump shot I just don't see it. Can someone explain to me how he would fit into an NBA offense right now?
