re: Spinoff: LSU will be screwed under the "playoff" system

I agree that the committee is a bad idea, unless you want it rigged as an affirmative action program for CFB. I disagree about letting one from each conference play because some conferences have more good teams than other e.g. SEC vis-a-vis the Big 10, ACC et al. It should be about the best teams. The bowls could help sort that out inasmuch as teams from different conferences would play each other. That would weed out the "Conference Champs" pretenders.

Write it down. This committee selection process will be nothing more than giving everyone an opportunity whether they deserve it or not. ND did not belong in the game last year.

Never seen someone go First Amendment on the preseason poll discussion. He's proposing the polls change their policy, not censoring the press.

Selection committee members:
Chairman: Jeff Long, AD Arkansas (shocker that they chose an SEC rep to chair)
Pat Haden- AD USC
Tom Jernstedt- Oregon alumnus
Oliver Luck- AD WV
Archie Manning- Ole Miss
Tom Osborne- Played, coached and AD'd Nebraska
Dan Radakovich- AD Clemson
Condoleezza Rice- Notre Dame alumna and current Stanford professor
Barry Alvarez- Nebraska alumnus and former Wisconsin hc/ad
Mike Tranghese- Big East commissioner for 18 years
Tyrone Willingham- Head coach Stanford, Notre Dame, Washington
Steve Wieberg- Missouri alumnus
And here's those not associated with major programs...
Lt. Gen. Michael Gould- Air Force
I feel bad for the smaller schools. They stand almost no chance against this board.

4 will become 6 or 8 within 10 years.

You people who wanted a playoff are in for a rude awakening.

First off, it can't do nothing to change it. It's different no matter what now. 4 teams is better than 2 no matter how you look at it.
Secondly, good God y'all. Can you people at least let it play out one year before calling it a failure?
A selection committee is used for basketball and baseball. Yes there are gripes occasionally but nothing too serious. Y'all are crazy if you think the selection committee polls won't closely mirror the AP and Coaches poll.
The fight for the 5th spot will draw criticism, of course. But how often does the 5th ranked team at the end of the year really have that big of an argument to be in the national title game? Hardly ever.
It'll work out just fine. You will occasionally see two teams from one conference in it, though don't expect it too often, which is exactly how it should be. SOME weight should be given to winning your division and conference.
This is this best system we could have right now, except I'd rather it be 8 teams. We can finally take the computers out of this and leave it to a little more common sense.

Will you eat crow when you agree with the 4 teams next year then?

WTF??
It gives SEC teams a better shot at the title game.

The committee will determine the top 4 teams. They aren't bound by any poll, or ranking; they won't need to account for how they evaluated strength of schedule. They have carte blanche to do whatever they want.
The committee hates LSU.

You're going to see a return to people in love with tOSU, Michigan, ND, USC, etc. picking them as the top 4 in the country if they have a pulse at season's end. I can guarantee you there will NEVER be an acknowledgement that two SEC schools are in the top 4 and both make the playoff.
The playoff system hates LSU.

This committee is even worse than the old-old system of the AP selecting the champ. At least there were so many sportswriters that all schools had a chance of their quality being recognized. This playoff system will accomplish nothing other than shifting the controversy from "who should be #2?" to "who should have been #4?"
The perceived future hates LSU

The BCS has been very good to LSU and
the SEC. The selection of the Committe
members has me scratching my arse!
What qualifies some of these people??
I'm good with Archie Manning but C. Rice???
And how long are these "experts" on the
Committe ? The Committe should change every
2 years.

Comparing it to affirmative action is appropriate. It has nothing to do with fairness, might as well accept this.
