Even though his body type doesn't fit, I see Ware as a third down back because he has above average pass protection ability and good hands out of the back field.

After the Cotton Bowl a couple of years ago, I really thought he was going to be one of the greatest runners in LSU history. He never really got going again. He might surprise in the Pros...

Told you guys

quote:

Rookie Spencer Ware will play fullback for the Seahawks. The Seahawks used former college quarterback Michael Robinson as their fullback last year, but he's not a true lead blocker. At 5'10/228, Ware could carve out a role in jumbo packages. He's not going to get any carries with the Seahawks sporting Marshawn Lynch, Robert Turbin and Christine Michael at tailback.

I bet Ware will carry the ball more next year than Christine Michael.

Yes.

He is a complete back. The only thing he really lacks is elite speed.

And, the way he runs the football is very reminiscent of Lynch.

I'd just like to see Ware run to daylight more. He is the only LSU running back that I've ever wished would be a little less physical, or maybe more precisely, pick and choose his battles with the defense. Instead of trying to take on the defense full bore all the time with these violent collisions, I'd like to see him avoid that flush hit from the defense more often, utilizing more of his skill set.

When he got drafted, Bill Polian was saying Spencer doesn't have any moves, and is strictly a north-south runner. That's not true. He's got a nice spin move and a little shake, but IMO, he got overly concerned with punishing the defense at times, while at LSU.

quote:

“He’s such a tough guy,” Carroll said of Ware. “We really liked his nature and the way he brings it. We’re expecting him to fit into a number of different areas — special teams, as well. A real hard-nosed football player, so I think he really fits the style.”

“He’ll work as a fullback but we know he can carry the football. We want to make sure to bring him along there. But the fact that he can swing really helps us. … He catches the ball really well, also, so we’re hoping that we can groom him as a fullback that can play tailback.”

Also, from nfl.com, on Christine Michael:

quote:

Not often targeted in the passing game, must prove he can be a reliable receiver. Whiffs too often when trying to land a punch in pass protection, and gets pushed back too easily when man-up.

I think Ware was our most complete RB. He runs hard and has a great set of hands. I don't get ESPN saying he has to prove himself as a reliable receiver. I don't recall him dropping one pass in his time at LSU.

Best of luck to you Spencer and I hope you get a lot of touches as a RB or a swing receiver.

Thought about that today and I really don't think he's dropped any catch-able passes in his three years at LSU.

But that quote was about Christine Michael, not Ware. All the analysts made the comment about his great hands when he got drafted. No wonder he was a pretty good baseball player.

Christine Michael also got drafted by the Seahawks. Ware will probably need to beat him out to secure a spot on the team. Good thing Ware his great at catching the ball, solid at pass blocking, and all around a NFL style RB.
