You didn't think the Mo Isom thing was a publicity stunt, did you. We suck that bad on kickoffs.

I referred to a time frame, not Saban's coaching ability. Why don't you let it go?

we're looking at some 100 yard returns when we play teams with actual talent soon if we don't make changes.

How would someone get a 100 yard return when we can't kick it past the 15?

our KOs are so shitty the returner has enough time to jog back to the 1 and then take off

usually we've been pretty damn good on special teams. One sign of weakness and it's back to 'oh if Saban were here we wouldn't have any problems and all of the kickoffs would be trailed by a pretty rainbow and when we tackle them at the one yard line an F15 would fly over the stadium trailing purple and gold smoke'

Our kickoff coverage was fine LAST YEAR so there isn't even any historical reason to go back seven years for the last time we covered kicks or kicked it fairly deep.

What happened to Drew Alleman....according to everyone who watched him in high school, he was consistently putting kickoffs through the back of the endzone....either they were lying or he lost some leg strength

I thought the call for the onside kick was great, though. There was a gaping hole on the right side. The execution was just off.

Not only was Mo offsides but I think the kick went about 10 yards farther then he needed it. Only kickoff that went 10 yards too far all night.

We kickoff to the 15 every time
Seemed like MS St starting field position was 35-ish. That will come up and bite the Tigers - especially vs. FL, AR and Bama. They will hold you accountable for those powder puff kickoffs. Giving Saban a short field in Tuscaloosa is ill-advised. Tigers need to fix that. Although this doesn't get all the attention (because we've dodged that bullet so far), I think it's the most pressing issue at this point in time.

Frickin hell...

"Saban was the only coach who could pin teams in the 10".

Where do you people come from? Do you people actually open your mouths and say stuff like this out loud?

And I'll add that we never ever go for a block on punts. It seems that wouldn't be such a risk if we can't return it any better than we do why not send the house for the potential block? I can't remember ever seeing us setting up to block a punt, we always set up for the return, but what's the point if we can't get good down field blocking and our returners are losing yardage? Just pin your ears back every time and go for the block, you're bound to have an increased chance at that then getting good field position on a poor return.

Agreed. The staff identified a hole in the Moo State return unit. It was just poorly executed. Sadly, the "onside" kick didn't give them much better field position than our normal kickoffs.

Howard appeared to get a little more distance on his kickoffs than Alleman. Maybe he can focus on that and improve because he can't punt worth a damn.

I'll never understand how a program like LSU can't get someone to handle a kickoff. I've seen better distance from 250 lb toe kickers from Glen Oaks.

we should probably go ahead and bring that chick soccer player in, she can't be weaker at kickoffs wing also needs to heal up because howard sucks

can not be less effective that what we are now...
a lot of DIV II schools (as it were) have better kickers and punters...we had been punting well

...this is mostly coaching I would think at this level..I say that because of the penalties which showed up last night and are a result of "lack of discipline" in practice by coaches.
"Practice does not make perfect, perfect practice makes perfect"
It appears obvious to me that we are not having perfect practices, we are allowing small stuff to go uncalled and it is therefore showing up in games.
We had a great game against UO, but if these little details are not looked at on a consistent, weekly basis, they will pop up again...that's what I saw last night.
It is human nature to relax, we must drive "mental toughness" and details in each of our performance/practices.
