Brian Polian - one of Kelly's Notre Dame buddies, and I would have told him to enjoy a perpetual Labor Day yesterday.

Had the number 3 ranked STs just a couple years ago. Excellent recruiter as well.

I'm not one to call for firings after one game but this is an exception. The special teams coach needs to go. That was awful last night and even a 75% improvement would still be bad. We need a 100% improvement from him and his unit and we need that this coming Saturday because a loss to Southern in Tiger Stadium would be a modern day earthquake game for all the wrong reasons.

Is he responsible for the blocking aspect of special teams play? Or is that the line coach?

There was a Notre Dame fan that came here and said he was a disaster and that we'd see.

It didn't take long.

Breakdown on extra point blocking is a pretty egregious failure. You can't make the kid catch the ball. You can't make a kid make a kick.

But, you can damn sure make sure that the line knows it's a cardinal sin to allow rushers to beat them to the inside. And, you can damn sure make sure it doesn't happen twice.

Brian polian is one of the main reasons we can actually field a team right now, with him working the transfer portal. I agree his until performed terribly though, but bad as it sucks that's kind of what you have to deal with in year 1 of a rebuild. You can't fix every aspect of a disaster in one offseason, and I'd bet special teams just didn't get much time devoted to it

So it’s Pollians fault the kids didn’t execute the plays.

Look, the ST’s were atrocious last night. With that being said, Polian does have a track record of good units and he’s a great recruiter. I’m willing to be patient.

Letting the rush beat you to the inside twice is 100% a coaching issue.

It's a coaching issue in prep...and a coaching issue in not identifying and fixing it when it happened the first time.

As much of a disaster Orgeron was the last two years, we never had a ST unit look like as big of a shite show as the one last night. There was no disaster to fix. Kelly and Polian certainly rolled one out there though.

Not calling for a fair catch on kickoffs is complete stupidity knowing how inexperienced we are as a team and it cost us field position numerous times. 6A high school teams are able to execute a FG/PAT blocking scheme on a consistent basis, and we commit basically the same error twice? I realize he cant field the actual punts, but having Nabors out there after he muffed the first one was a poor if not egregious coaching decision.

I like Polian, and I assume he will get his shite together, but last night his unit was every bit as bad as Pelini/Raymond's defense/secondary in 2020.

Exactly- he was blocking 2 on the extra point but could have easily extended his arms on both with a shove…only need seconds to get kick off
Have to knock them from their path
