Don't ever go into graphic design. You flipped it and tilted it and thought that was an improvement?
Then you just opened the mouth to make it look like he's throwing up (all over the L thanks to your awesome flipping).
Come on man.

I will never know why LSU dropped the ball on getting the actual students involved in the new design.
I remember when they challenged students to come up with the 2nd verse of the alma mater. It was an actual contest and if I recall, entries were printed in the Reveille.
Why in the hell wouldn't they have done this with the logo? For starters, would have saved thousands of dollars.

People will hate this, but most everyone in this thread is dead wrong on the logo.
First off, students are students. They are not ready to design national brands. That's what they're learning. They should've gone with some local firms, but at the time, Baton Rouge was really lacking in design firms and the LSU design program was down in general so that was hard.
They made what was, on the surface, a smart decision in going with the same firm that had just completed the new NFL team logos. But, I can promise you they art-directed and micro-managed the hell out of the firm that did the design. No way that firm adds the stupid hurricane swoosh thing behind the tiger without being requested to.
Now, there's no disagreement that the original LSU logo was awful because it was absolutely awful. (This is the original logo) But not long after they released that logo, they did away with the swoosh and the hands to become the version that started this thread.
This is a good logo and it's a good logo for a number of reasons.
First, if you all had never seen that crappy hurricane swoosh version you would not have been so disappointed. It's just a well designed, easily printable, easily recognizable logo.
Second, because of the logo a new font was commissioned. That font is the actual brand of LSU, it's used on almost everything now. Everyone loves it.
Finally, and most importantly, this mark, this brand, this identity, has been part of LSU's ride up to the SEC's most valuable athletic department. It is the identity of a $47 million a year enterprise. It is worth more than anybody in this thread will ever generate.
It's for those reasons that you all need to just stop talking about it. You don't know marketing or design and it shows, but more importantly than that you guys can't seem to understand that it's the most valuable brand in the SEC.
tl/dr: It's the SEC's most valuable brand, none of you can improve on that, so just leave it alone.

Says the person who is questioning the decision making processes behind the SEC's most valuable brand.

Nice way to spin it. LSU gear is among the most valuable brand in the country. But it's not because of Toonces specifically. That includes anything affiliated with LSU. Save that CYA bullshite speech for your boss.

Toonces was rolled out in 2002. Guess what that release date coincides with? The rise to prominence of LSU football. Had LSU come up with a different logo, the monetary numbers would be similar because of the success of LSU football. The cartoon logo is shite.

I hate it. I prefer any of the fonts below:

shite, I missed this part. You MUST work in the Athletics department. That's what they all think as well. I guess you discount the opinion of everyone on Tigerdroppings who constantly bitch about it.

Flip it to the right and it's ok

That's why I say, he has the CYA speech prepared and tailored about being "#1 in the SEC". That's misleading though. It's LSU brand that may be #1 (which I highly doubt with Bama), but it isn't specifically that high because of the Toonces logo. It's not like Tiger Mania can't keep a rack of Toonces logo shirts in stock. Those are usually the only full racks in the store, if anything.

Your numerous reasons on why this is a good logo:
1. Because it doesn't have a shitty swoosh in it.
2. It's just well designed easily, easily printable, and easily recognizable.
3. Because it has a new typeface
4. It is the logo LSU had when their football team started to win and become nationally prominent.
Your argument is invalid.
1. I just took a shite and my turds don't have a swoosh around them. They never did, but it still looks like a piece of shite even without a swoosh around it.
2. The hello kitty logo is a well designed easily, printable, and easily recognizable. That doesn't mean it would make a good logo for LSU.
3. You can add a new typeface with adding a new logo.
4. If they would have never added that shitty logo, the helmet logo would be the one that was in the spotlight during LSU's rise to the top. Then the same logo that was used for decades is in national spotlight. Now we have two logos which is even more confusing.
You are the one who doesn't know marketing or design and it shows.
